Doing my first building project...

On cement.. what's the best brand? Is price indicative of quality? I've got quotes for Bamburi - 720, Simba - 700, some other brand 680 etc.

Pia nimeambiwa koroga guys have a tendency to ponyoka na some bags? What precautions do you guys who've been here and done this suggest?

I've used Blue Triangle...
It all depends on what you are doing

Koroga guys will always outsmart you.. but when you look at it differently, it motivates them to work better. Just allocate some kidogo % for losses like that

Simple 2-bedroomed residential house. They've asked for quite a number of bags for slab.

Use Bamburi.
Unrivalled in quality.

Ask your self how much you stand to save for using
cheaper brands and compromising on quality.

What do you mean? Doesn't all cement in Kenya conform to the same KEBS standard? Is there any record of a building that collapsed because the cement used was of poor quality? NB: I'm not talking about the concrete mix, which would be a contractor problem.

@ Cassandra, the major brands in kenya are ok. What causes failure of structures is mostly the concrete mix ie ratio of cement, sand and ballast and also the curing of the concrete (watering of concrete so that it sets to strength)
On the bamburi cement packaging, they give the ratio of cement, sand and ballast eg 1:2:4 for slabs etc (check) From this, one can calculate roughly how many bags of cement required by volume. If in doubt, consult an engineer.

I once did tests (both destructive and non-destructive) on concrete cubes done using several cement brands in Kenya. The blocks using the same mix and cured similarly yielded no statistically significant difference in strength.... don't be fooled.

The rest is marketing..... If you asked Bamburi to prove their point, they will tell you structures don't lie..... What do they expect? Nyali bridge to collapse?
