After a few years away from home, I came back for a visit and like a new comer, I had to hook up with old friends for good times, little did I know that in Kenya when you are hunging out with women, no matter who proposed for the drink or the meal, the man has to pay!Excuse me, the last time I was in kenya, my parent was holding my hand and footing the bill since I had no money on my name so didn't really know I was suppose to be paying every little thing, come on people! I looked around the pub and all the women were busy ordering and ordering and from the look of the men's faces, they were busy adding and subtracting, BS who started this? Men we need to stop these BS, unless you said you'll pay, if a woman make an order, she has to pay, screw this!

Hehe this is why I always tell the waiter to only put what I personally order on a seperate bill. Unless I offer to buy a round I generally just pay for my own drinks.

Drunkard, don't shy away from your responsibilities. Kama hauna pesa hiyo siku, just postpone the date.

@drunkard has a point. Most women will invite you for a date or a series of dates and will contribute zero towards the bills.

@ Drunkard, you sound really mature, wish all women will behave like you and stop the parasitism tendencies. You go out with a workmate who earns more than you and she expects you to foot all the bills, pay for her taxi home etc.
Doors of opportunity don't just open , they have to be unlocked & it's up to you to turn the knob.

Why would you go out with the girl in the first place? Is it not hoping that one day, she will allow you to land your airbus on her airport without paying? This is Africa. YOu do it the African way or go back from where you came from. By the way, are you black or pink? If black, respect your culture. Only take out a girl you hope to one day enjoy the fruits of your labour. Or your argument is you share the landing rights without authority?

@Drunkard, I beg to differ: Some of these habits are part of what makes us "Kenyans". Do we need to copy whatever others do out there? Do we need to do things the way they do them "Dutch way"? This is a man's world and dependency is the order of the day. Plus landing rights have to be paid for indirectly.

@drunkard I'm with you on this one, as you said, hook up with 'old friends' - plural, so all these date stories being banded around are misplaced. If these friends are college students or I called them and said I'm buying fine - I'd pay otherwise throwing one or two rounds for ol times should suffice not footing amorphous bills. HAPANA! easier with the working class, don't be ambiguous. If the chics feel your vibe this won't be an issue. That is from experience. Usidanganywe, let the omeras pay smile A fool and his money are soon parted.

what is kenyan about spending your money recklessly on "friends" or women in the name of not copying what others do out there. you see this is the reason kenyan women say kenyan men think with their fly or simply put they are idiots you spend money on them and you don't get nuthing. You don't prove how much of a man you are by being stupid with your money.

My worst experience. A sales lady looking for business where I work and have passable influence in the contract award invites me for a meal at a trendy joint in the leafy suburbs. She then pushes the bill to me after gorging herself. Needless to say she lost my custom.

Let me tell you what I do:

When I take a woman out, I pay... if she brings her broke friends kill the date early...

When I go out with a friend who is short, I lend him cash or pay for him depending on my mood/my cashflow/our relationship...

When I go out in a large group, I try to keep a clear head. Clear your bills every hour or so... or better yet pay as you order so that guys dont expect you to chip in at the end. Another thing that happens often is that people order for cocktails and expensive whiskies then you end up splitting the total amount evenly after u've had 5 tuskers!!!!

Btw, Drunkard, were there any college girlfriends? Did u get any?

Welcome back brav, only landing rights issues can pop you out of the underworld. You never came to Alfajiri, any excuses?

@Mlevi
...Should not assume things...make things clear from the start...this is not the West and we dont assume.
...There are nice 'Eves'out there who will foot the bill again and again.
...Depends on who you are hanging out with... Kama ulienda kuokota takataka ya K-street usitulee...You got what you went for...
...Again the issue of how we have been socialised matters...Men have always paid bills in Kenya!!! Ati ukialikwa for a drink huko west unaenda ukijibebea changaa yako! Some of this BS from the west makes me want to chance a fart when I have diarrhoea!!!
