Anybody engaged in the digital printing business in Nairobi? How is the market, what are the risks and returns?

I do run one. But just like any other business in the CBD I can tell you that it's now challenging with very many 2nd hand printers in every corner and cheap refill toners. One year from now this business will be like what photocopying business is like now. But I think if you target entering and setting up in the counties then it will make sense (I'm researching on this currently). My advice is if you want to get into this business invest for long term, get different machines that can print from A4 to banners, avoid very tempting cheap toner refills, keep very high quality in printing and customer service the latter being the most impportant and target to break even in 2yrs. Location is no issue as kizuri chajiuza in this business.

BBI will solve it

As a frequent customer of these businesses I must concur. I am constantly switching from one print shop to another because of poor customer service, declining quality and staff untrained in the use of requisite software/hardware.

Make sure whoever you hire is courteous and knows how to use design software competently, knows basic hardware/software troubleshooting and can operate the machines. It is really frustrating to have to show the person you are paying to do a job how to carry out a task.
In a place where thought is abandoned, freedom can become a curse.

Thanks @grolut and @2012. Those are good points. Any additional tips on equipment and costings?
