Why are they proposing to hike the standing charge which I understand to be for meter reading yet they are installing prepaid meters? On the contrary, those with prepaid meters should not pay the standing charge!

We need consumer protection groups; we are being milked left and right. I have wondered why companies can not shoulder some of the costs .... they just pass them to the consumer.

On the other hand, the standing charge is NOT for meter reading; it is becoz they have used their money to bring service to your House ...whether you consume or not, you pay!!

Considering I had no power the whole of yesterday, I wonder if they keep up with these blackouts, I should be lowering my bill soon

I usually have power for less that 4 days a week. I understand that 'our phase' transformer keeps blowing up and all they do is replace the cheap fuse with a cheaper one and hence it is a cycle. And yes the power bill has gone up with 50%! I am on post paid and last month's bill has confirmed this.
It is disappointing to see lights at my neighbor's and none at my house!

Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

Still doesn't make sense why I should pay the 'standing charge' yet I am paying for every unit that I consume at the prices they set. It is like Safcon, airtel charging me for building BTSs next yp my home so that I can get a clear signal. No I don't agree...

As you say, we need strong consumer protection in this country. Sometime back, about 2 years back,I said and I repeat, Consumer Protection will be the bridge to power in 2012. Watch this space. This is why, it is the middle class that choses the next president. right now, they are being pushed. Their messiah shall be the president.

I have issue with regard to the new meter billing. Since installation, my account was activated around June 8, 2011 with initial 30 units for the trial which lasted for about 13 days. from my daily observation i can affirm that I was consuming around 2- 2.5units per day. I reloaded 53 units on June 20, 2011 while with four units thus totalling to 57 units. To my surprise the units moved absurdly from 32 to 12 in a single day.

I don't understand this inconsistency before i used to consume 61units per month,I have never increased appliances. Any body with similar problem please share

Why don't you form one?

Or join this one: COFEK?

Go on; take some action. Don't just sit and wait for some one else to come to your aid!

{1} There is COFEK. If you are not happy with the way they are doing things, may be you should form one.

{2} Companies DO shoulder some of the costs. Look at any company's income statement and you will see an item called "COST OF GOODS"! It would be unfair to expect a company to operate at a loss; in fact, it would be unsustainable.

{3} Not true. The cost of bringing the service to your house is paid for when you pay the "connection fees". The standing charge is totally indefensible... and therefore unwarranted!

@Mukiha,
