I recently acquired a Full HD TV but some of the local stations are not as razor sharp as they should be (actually some are clearer on my CRT Tv than on the HD) because we have no HD stations in Kenya - all station broadcast in SD.
I checked online and realized that this problem is not peculiar to Kenya. Even in the west where they have both HD and SD stations people complain about the sharpness of stations broadcasting in SD on their HDTV. I visited a couple of electronics shops and we (me + the shop attendants) realized the problem is the same on all HDTVs regardless of make and model. The sales rep/technicians didn't seem to have a workable solution.
Is there anyone out there who know of a solution to this issue - maybe a gadget I can buy - or any other solution?
I have read a bit on Mecer Lt320 TV box. Anyone here ever used it? Testimonials? Is there any way I can connect a HD DVD with the aerial and the TV to upscale the resolution? Thanks in advance.
The reason the picture seems worse is that you probably also upgraded to a larger screen when you migrated from CRT to LCD type, i.e., from say 21" to 42". Is that what you did?
Smaller TVs have sharper pictures than large TVs. The reason being that they all display pictures on 625 lines across the screen (in SD format). So the larger the screens, the broader the individual lines and the worse the picture!
For that reason, you must sit farther away in order to see a clear picture on large TV. So don't go buying a 42" if your sitting room is only 6ft wide!
