I installed a GPRS data counter on my Idiot phone, set the counters @ 10 MB per day.
Suprises!
1). Both uploaded and downloaded data counted. I was under the impression that only downloaded data counts
2). When you are 3/4 way through the bundle, you recieve a SMS stating that you have already exhausted your bundle, and need to subscribe for more, or something to that effect.
3) an Idiot phone consumes around 2MB per day when left idle. Markyou, without using it for browsing. Keeps updating some background applications.....etc

@Murenj: All smart devices update background applications all the time. If you left your phone powered and switched on all month, you will be surprised at the data volume it will consume. And the more the number of applications you have downloaded, the more the updates will be done automatically. You can disable these updates, but anytime you will need to run any application, all past updates will have to be made for your application to run - this will even take longer and be more inconveniencing. And this occurs with all smart devices, on all mobile broadband networks.

Both uploaded and downloaded data are counted coz you are charged for both, and the counter is supposed to show you what you are 'consuming'.
2). When you are 3/4 way through the bundle, you recieve a SMS stating that you have already exhausted your bundle, and need to subscribe for more, or something to that effect.
The GPRS data counter alerts you when you hit 75% that your about to reach your limit. You have to know how much data bundle you have when you are setting the limit, coz if you have only 5MB remaining and you set the counter at 10MB, si utapata sms from safcom? amjustsaying...
3) an Idiot phone consumes around 2MB per day when left idle. Markyou, without using it for browsing. Keeps updating some background applications.....etc
Deactivate background data on Settings-Accounts & Sync-Background data.
Alternatively, when you dont want to use the net, you can always deactivate data on Settings-Wireless&networks-Mobile networks-Data enabled (deselect).

Its NOT... but kama mtu hawezi shika stori ya updates and actually complains about being charged for "uploads".. that person needs to step back into the past to the use of Jingaphones.. Hizi smartphones ni za kumsumbua. Ni kama kusema if I call someone and not say a word and just listen -- I should not be chargedShame on you
