Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

Hope up and running again!

I was asking about what to do with 1 acre land in dry place like Kitengela and I appreciate your thoughts. I am still considering a few options.

Now, kindly, when I was young some 20 years ago, we used to have a lot of bananas and beans. Because of scarcity of land, these products have become scarce and expensive - not just in Nairobi but in many parts of Kenya.

I did inquire last week about the cost of a greenhouse (from Amiran) and they told me one of size 8m x 24m costs 240K.

Can banana growing in, say, 1/4-acre greenhouse be a reasonable venture? I do know that bananas can grow together mixed with beans, if I remember well. These two products will, I believe, have no problems with market.

Best of all, they could help meet my food needs both at home and at Office, avoiding the expensive lunches in Nairobi!!

Any thoughts, kindly?

Thanks and a good day.

Bananas in a greenhouse? Never heard of that. You need to consult the agric extension officer. The govt has employed many at district level and their services are free. If you want to do farming as a business you need to stop looking at it like a mere past time.
Life is short. Live passionately.

I do not think you can grow bananas in a greenhouse. But as long as you have water, you will be spoilt for choice on what to grow. Talk to an extension officer. This website has information on crops though it lacks detail www.nafis.go.ke All the best in your venture.
Lord, thank you!

Thanks for your thoughts. Will follow up.

Also, do I understand that I can not do farming while doing my 8.00 am to 5.00 pm job? If I employed someone full-time and demanded results, it still can not work?

Actually, my idea is to get someone to live on the farm and work on it, ensuring that the person pays himself and I also get something reasonable to justify the existence of the farm

Thanks
