It depends on the Ipad. They come in two forms, one with WIFI and 3GS, and one with WIFI only. Incase you own the 3GS version, simply remove the AT & T or Verizon card and fit the safcom card. You may have to trim the safcom card to fit into the slot. Once done you will be able to use it for internet same way you use the iphone.
WIFI version works only in places with wireless.

.....you can visit the Apple centre at Sarit centre, they will take you through everything from itunes, sync with your pc,movies, free downloads, facetime, istore etc.
...you cam aslo watch live news on some channels.
....one downside though, you cant do dstv mobile till we get the drifta like in SA.
.......there is also a big jamaa at phone express in westgate next to Barclays who will cut the sim for you and insert to the ipad ,connect to your preferred network and you are then ready to surf....you can do plenty of things with the ipad.enjoy, as i will never regret getting one.

...safcom does not fry mandazis Shitsugane, they know zero on ipads

An honest question why do people buy ipads(tablets generally)?
.unlike smart phones they are too big to fit in your pocket, not to mention some smart phones have chips that come very close in terms of processor speeds to those of tablets.
Plus the thing is almost the same size as some netbooks but can't do as many tasks as a decent netbook which has a full OS?
Or is it just a status symbol?

Plus check this out ebay OLPC for as low as 16,000!!
