Kenya is losing Health proffesionals to better payers.

When will GOK realise that this exodus will continue until health workers are paid & treated well?

My view is that unless working conditions and pay improve, we will keep training and losing health professionals.
How can a doctor who is working at KNH casualty for weeks still have to do locums to make ends meet? Hakuna, they will look for a better payer..

Or a nurse on night shift in a children’s ward or ICU, is up & about all night for 4 or more nights in a row and is then paid peanuts?

Sense has it that they move to a better payer!

the Kenya government pays very poorly to the health care professionals.
The starting salaries for the professionals are unacceptably low and thats why one has to work with govt for maximum of 5 years and move to private institutions.
e.g a GP earning starting salary of ksh 60k compared to ksh 150k in private institutions or a Nurse earning a starting salary of ksh 23k compared to starting salary of ksh 50k in private institutions.
Considering the workload and trauma and risks,its better being a clerk with govt than being a healthcare worker.
