................and yet another consolation........we didn't muster zero shots on/off target.

The only shot on target was as a result of an offside build up.
Ryan Giggs was offside before passing to Rooney for the goal.

Man Utd is a great team. That is why the fact that they lost in the final of the biggest club tournament in the world is big news.

In other news, expect a couple of big signings by Man U this summer. You can take that to the bank. We'll have a totally rebuilt mid field. Watch this space!

Only one team is a threat to Man U - Barcelona. We don't want to lose another final to Barcelona. Unless they meet in earlier stages, you can be sure that the two teams in the CL final next year will be Man U and Barcelona. We don't want to lose a 3rd final in four years to the same team. We have to rebuild with Barcelona in mind. Forget the mediocre teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and the rest. Those have nothing on Man United. Next season we lift our 20th EPL trophy but we have to think of how to get our hands on the CL trophy and stop Barcelona from becoming the first team to retain it.

One more thing that will happen next year: Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool fans among other non Man U fans will be fans for hire in the CL final.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

An unfortunate statement from an old man.

Barcelona is just one team. NOT a league. Are you saying that if they were from Turkey we could simply conclude that the Turkish league is superior to the rest? Very pedestrian if you ask me!

if it was over rated, how comes we had 4 teams in the last eight of the Champions league?

What a night!! I was fortunate to be at Wembley and witness history, and boy the night did not dissapoint. the atmosphere was electric and who'd who in football was there from the greats like Koemann, I rem watching the interview of Messi, he said he never knows what he is going to do in a game, he never plans for a game, he feels the game and lets the game come to him..well what more can i say the..half a yard Vidic, Evra and Van Der Sar it was lights out!!

Strategy at it's best, Barca new from the onset Man U will press and try to nick an early goal, (As they did against Chelsea) but their aim was to see who plays what position and who is marking who..once this was identified well the Tiki - taka started. (I am told Barca rarely passes the ball 10m, so that even if they loose it they don't have to run 10m) hence their quick recovery.

As we sat and watched the match, my collegue logs to the internet on his phone and their is an interview on the spanish press asking Xavi, if he would have wanted to join Man United when he was young?? He said yes, but the scouts would never have looked at him twice, because the English want the Big 6.4 boys who are strong with very slow movement but we are not. Barca had only 3 outfield players or so over 6 foot, but still Man U could not get near the ball.

I hate to say this as Njunge pointed out, it's not Man U but it's the English game hugely overhyped but no technique, only Arsene Wenger has tried, but the English just can't play football...we saw it in the world cup and we saw it in the Champions league final.

What was interesting is that in 2009, CR 7 was hugely blamed for the loss by the media, coz he was self absorbing almost to a point!! but the truth of the matter is They were outclassed by a better team, and yesterday well..it was clear for all to see!!

In the last 20 min as Man U chased shadows, chicharito had been glued to the center spot, my English colleagues finally agreed, this was history unfolding. Huge questions marks hang over Fergies tactics (CR 7 said they lost coz Fergie got his tactics wrong) Fergie Knew Barca's strength is in the midfield, why dint he overload the midfield as he did against chelsea, Mournho did it last year with Inter and thats how he got away with it! Why did he leave Berbatov out, he is a natural gifted player, he can resonate with Barcas flow and most importantly ability to hold the ball..well all i can say maybe it was Ego, fergie wanted to prove to the world, he cant take on Barca playing their kind of football..what a load of Bollocks.

On a more serious note, does Ferguson suffer from perkinsons disease.? they showed us when he was sited and his hands were shaking quite unervenly...ama ni tension( Ferguson tense thats one for collectors!!) or kichapo ambacho alikuwa anashuhudia!!.

On a diff note Spanish girls were giving it yesterday all over!! it was unbelievable at club chiquitta!! i had fun last night LONG LIVE BARCA LOL!!

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.

I'll have to agree with @Ric Dees on this one...Chicharito had no shot on goal the entire 90 minutes...why didn't Fergie put Rooney up in front in the 2nd half and remove Giggs or Park who were clearly tired then put in Anderson/Fletcher?

To be beaten twice by the same team in the same manner is agonising but when you remember it's the best team in the world, then you really can't argue. Despite supporting Man Utd, I have never and will never support England in any football competition.

As @Maich has said, we need to now recruit with Barca in mind - I still wonder whether there's any team that can beat Barca in open play or doesn one have to employ Mourinho tactics to win? Any team that has tried to match Barca has been devoured alive - even Espanyol who played very well against Barca were thrashed 5-1, the first El Clssico became an El Tragico as well. That is how good the team is, that it can only be beaten through dubious formations. Even Gooners tried but wapi, and by the way they switched off after scoring the first goal in Emirates, otherwise if it was a final there's no way they'd have been beaten. You can tell when they switch off and switch on.

So yes, the challenge is how to beat Barca in open play, whether you meet in quarters/semis or a fnal. The philosophy of La Masia is truly the football purist's orgasm. Congratulations Barca, we will meet again. Glory Glory

C&P

Barely a United player went un-nutmegged as the Barca genius weaved his wondrous spells in a centre-forward role. Finally put to bed the theory that he doesn't do it on the most exalted stages with an astonishing 25-yard screamer to put Barca 2-1 ahead with his 53rd goal of the season. His place among the game's greats is now guaranteed.
