..contrary to generalised opinion.. Uhunye just restricted

new NSSF contributions to be invested only in Treasury Bills n Treasury Bonds..

Mhmm...competition for Treasury bills&bonds has suddenly gone a good chunk very high...hence..Gov't can quote lower rates..forcing banks seek other lendin options..freein up debt capital to private sector...

vis a vis lockin out a huge institutional investor from stock market!!! ..

dude thought real smart.

..if it is not expressly prohibited in law.. DO IT!!!!

Actually, all pension schemes/funds that seek to invest in paper will have to invest new remittances in treasury bonds n treasury bills. Thus involvement in stocks is limited to what they already have. NSSF trades it's shares.. Year 06-07 a HUGE chunk of profits was attributed to fact that they traded stocks in the NSE...thus they still have a hand in the market. A big one for that matter. So do other pension schemes.

..if it is not expressly prohibited in law.. DO IT!!!!

@Jammo,You are on spot regarding Uhuru directive to NSSF. However,do RBA rules restrict NSSF from directly trading on the stock exchange? If so,what happens if they wish to trade with their existing portfolio's?

May we live in interesting times!
