Dear Members,

On Saturday , a member ,donated some clothes and mattresses for the charity club.I sent request for suggestions on the possible beneficiaries.I got a suggestion of Paradise community centre in Kibera.

On the same I was entering my gate, two women with IDP badges approached me asking for assistance of clothes.
They looked desperate and deserving. They were from Mai maiu IDP camp displaced from Molo. They were begging from house to house. To me they were God sent.Courageous ladies. They had a paper bag with a few clothes donated by my neighbors on this day.I gave them my contacts since they did not have a mobile phone. On Sunday they contacted me and gave me a contact through which I can get them.

I am suggesting that we contribute more clothes and hand them over to these IDPs . You can imagine their plight especially during this rainy season. The two courageous ladies would not sit and watch their kids suffer from pneumonia and other illness resulting from the cold. They were walking from house to house seeking for help.We can do something.

Please if you have some used clothes , for men , women , children of all ages , you can donate them to the charity club.Actually before we engaged for a long time , the women were asking me to donate even if it's one T-shirt .So any kind of clothing is useful to them .Used mattress/beddings are also welcome.

We could also arrange a visit to the camp and see what we can do to assist some of the IDPs , they are about 300 in the camp , according to the two women I met on Saturday.

We shall also visit Paradise community center in Kibera as a club soon.

Where can we drop off the clothes?
Entrepreneurship is a cognitive bias. They can’t teach it to you.

Good inititative,

However, please be a bit cautious. There are women going round estates getting guys to give them clothes in the name of IDPs. They later on sell the clothes. This scam was even once acted out on inspector Mwala on Citizen TV.

By all means give, but be cautious guys.

Thanks Bwenyenye, for the caution, we shall be extra cautious even if it means going to the camp as a club.

As usual we have to take the necessary measures to
ensure that members donations go to the most deserving beneficiaries.
Once the collections are made , we can organise a trip to mai mahiu. It's just about 60km from Nairobi.

Its important to take caution. I heard over the radio this morning that the national chairman of IDP's drives a Toyota Surf, has a DSTV etc.

Some guys are out to take advantage of the real IDP's.

Dear Members,

I managed to talk to the administration of Harvest Centre church In Kangemi to allow us to use some stores in the church premises as a collection point.A collection point was a big setback which slowed us in deciding when to Visit the IDPS.

We agreed that we will partner with them in this and other events if Charity members agree. They have a department called Open Hand Ministry in their church which deals with helping the less advantaged in the society .I talked to the Assistant Bishop ,who was more than ready to partner with us.

If you find the Kangemi too far for dropping the clothings and other donations , you can inform me and I will send someone to pick them from your doorstep.

Now , remember the charity club is not a religious grouping so people from all religion are welcome.

Infact, one verse that the Bishop of the Center preached and emphasized on yesterday was James 1. 27

James 1.27

27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

So as long as you are doing something to help the poor and vulnerable , you are in the right religion with one attached condition :that you should keep unstained by the world.

We have about 2 weeks to the D-day ,please lets have the donations before 31st May 2011 for planning purposes.

Also , please set aside the date of 4th June 2011 morning hours so we can visit the IDPs .Remember in the afternoon same day will be the Wazua Mbuzi day courtesy of Ric Dees et al.
