QUESTION:

How have they calculated the EPS? Or have they annualised it for comparison?
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Equity Bank Q1 2011 Earnings Analysis

Fantastic numbers from James Mwangi's Equity Bank, you really got to admire what he has done at Equity Bank, it was an all round performance apart from the increase in operating expenses which surged by 22%, i would put this performance as an outlier this year and most banks have a lot of catching up to do, I'm also tipping Equity Bank to take over the most profitable bank mantle this year. EPS now stands at 0.62 this first quarter which gives a forward EPS at 2.48 that equates to a trailing year end PE of 10.88 which is quiet inexpensive for this kind of growth momentum.

I've just come from mwingi today on personal business. I have been thoroughly impressed by equity bank, kcb and co-op. These banks are everywhere. Equity bank agents are everywhere, even the smallest towns with poor infrastructure , they are there, and they are many! I think equity's growth curve is far from over. I have come away from here with a conclusion to buy all 3 banks, at the right price of course.

And i also saw a kobil around 20kms from mwingi in a very small town in a remote area. Total has a good petrol station in mwingi town, just wish that was a kenolkobil as well.

Segman said if you think you have a location in mind, let them know & they will investigate the possibility of putting in a station...
