Lower profits for Safaricom in 2011-12?

http://www.businessdaily...0/-/plbdiv/-/index.html

Safaricom benefits from higher interconnection fees since it has the bulk of subscribers.

Generally, it means more folks will call Safaricom from other networks thus there is a net 'inflow' of calls [& cash]. Of course, the higher interconnection costs means Safaricom can also keep more subscribers WITHIN the network.

A lower interconnection fee means it is 'cheaper' for Airtel/Telkom/Yu to offer special cross-network deals but Safaricom will receive 'fewer' revenue from these calls unless the number of minutes jumps by 40%.

In the past we were multi-SIM but less so know. I use a Safaricom data SIM [best service though pricey] but I use Airtel for all other calls. At 3/- I am indifferent to how many minutes I call so Safaricom will make less per call from me/Airtel [when I call cross-network].

BTW, on data... Safaricom is kicking butt!

The question is for how long will voice continue to be the major component for Safaricom's revenue. It will not remain at 70% forever.

Very true comrade and I re-emphasise that there was need for a smooth transition to Data & VAS. Since Airtel disrupted that...the light @ the end of the tunnel could be that of an on-coming train! Lol! In addition, when Airtel extends the war to 3G..safcom will be left on the ground calling foul/penalty as the Ref. waves play on..smile

Most of the Vodafone affiliates release the same week as the parent. Usually the last week of May with preferred days being Wednesdays or Thursday. No idea why those days...

Btw now that Safcom is back below 4/-, the same trend pops up again. Demand is picking up again. Someone or some people are mopping it up at this levels. Seems 3.50 is the mboyz floor which is being guarded at all attempts lower.

FY 2010-11 will be OK... the hurt starts in 2011-12 [especially the 'losses' from voice!]

I wonder what happens when the haircuts start rolling in. That share price could easily get to 2/- or below and look like paka!
Would CMA then pass an extraordinary emergency provision for a buyback or a reverse split (consolidation)? I'm also wondering if it is healthy to have stocks trading at 1/- or 2/- even the coin value can't buy sweets! Yawa!

@hisah. Other than minimum 100 shares that can trade in NSE there should be another condition, say 5,000/= worth of shares.
