My grandfather passed away 7 years ago. Couple of months ago I received one letter (on my grandfather’s name) in our post saying that he (my grandfather) should send his email address, full names as they appear in CDSC account together with his national id/passport number to BAT to allow them for electronic transfer payment modes for dividend (Article 125), and notification to shareholders via the electronic and print media (Article 136).

My grandfather never mentioned about his shareholding in BAT and I m sure he never had CDSC account.

I need to know how many shares he has in BAT, What options I have? How do i start investigations?

I don't think it is that simple. There will be the matter of the letter of administration which I presume is out already. If the court determined you to be the administrator then OK, but I guess not as you must be way down the totem pole - there is your father and his siblings above you.
