Hi guys, please help.

A first time mum, and have run out of ideas. My angel has had enough of malenges, bananas etc.

I dont hold any brief for this company but I surely believe they offer good services to parents.As a Father I have found KIRINYAGA Millers located near globe cinema roundabout very resourceful.

They offer nutritional classes ,in conjunction with KNH, to Mothers [although I dont know if they still offer them].I took my wife there once and she was really transformed.

They also offer different type of flour...you just need to indicate the age of your Kid and they will mix it for you according to your kids needs.

@memmy,

I have a niece that age and the following is what we give her as a variety and a break from malenges n bananas
-nduma+potatoes...mash and add milk.
-potatoes+spinach+butternut
-ugali mashed in milk
-sweet potatoes+potatoes+spinach
-blend different fruits as well to break the monotony.

But by nine months the child should be having family diet. Whatever you eat baby eats,(Indian babies eat curry) avoid too much salt in your food. Make it wholesome as possible and avoid processed stuff if possible. Soemthing like 1/4 brown chapo cut up in tiny pieces and mixed with ndengu stew and lots of soup... The idea of making special baby food is no longer encouraged. The only time you can 'tesa' your child with malenge stuff is when weaning at 6 months after that you start family diet mashing with a fork. I pray you are no longer using a blender. Mash with a fork to encourage chewing (even without teeth babies can use their gums). It will aid digestion as it starts in the mouth with the enzymes in saliva.

Beans / cow peas (minji)boiled + potatoes + greens (You can buy Thabai- Stinging Nettle.).Add white onion,tomato(peel the outer cover) grate a carrot and some salad oil.Boil and mash together.
Also you can add chicken liver.But remember to go easy on proteins if the kid is allergic.

@ Peppy,if the kid eats the food ya watu wakubwa,what about the spices? i think this is why most people prefer to make a different meal for the baby.

Any hospital/clinic dealing with kids should have a chart showing what kind of food you should feed your kid at what age. I know for sure Getrudes has one - just request for one at the reception. You will be suprised how much people tesa their kids after listening to 'advice' from friends and family. I think the only thing your kid should not eat at 9 months is egg york. Fried food is actually a requirement at this age!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Your food doesn't have to be bland. Just that you don't have to boil for baby. Babies can tolerate food with kidogo dhania, garlic, white onion etc. Go easy on the acidic foods like tomatoes, tomato paste, royco etc. Another alternative is to remove baby food just before spicing yours up. But as a parent you'll notice the baby wants to eat from your plate smile

You can also mince for them chicken breast or fish fillet and make for them a stew with the 'malenge' stuff if you are a bit worried. Just avoid boiling its what makes people say that their kids don't like eating. And remember they also need oils/fats to digest the vitamins (Winnies pure health has some good products). Phew, makes me sound like a teacher.

Well i am not a mom yet but i have heard all manner of advice. Infact they say that a child should not be subjected to fried food at such an early age. That is why people prefer to boil the food.

If i had a kid,i would boil but ensure there is variety.the idea of separating the baby's food before spicing is ok.
