What's the need?
Its all about the car not the driver.
Just watched the Malaysian Grand Prix with Vettel leading from pole to finish. But Where's the fun? Where's the exitement?

@ safariant:

Its all about the driver and not the car. Did you see how Alonso made headway towards the end only for him to hit LH?
Also Lewis lost position last 5 laps coz the tyres were out n not coz he is a bad driver. He had to pit knowing he would lose out on the points.
So ni dereva.

@marimari Have to disagree with you...the car counts for quite a bit. That Red Bull is fast!!! I could probably stick it on pole myself. Adrian Newey is a genius.

Ati Formula 1 ni sport? using a machine!!? Anyway, I don't get fascination with this thing...for some people it is to try and look different from the football fanatics. Then again, walking in town, you find someone with a Formula 1 shirt, you might be forgiven for thinking he is a walking advertisement post.....label kama zote!!

Qualifying races in formula 1 are more entertaining than the main race.

F1 used to be more interesting way back then before they stifled it with more rules and then some ostensibly to make it competitive. Now you rarely even see any overtaking on the track. It is mostly done on the pit. One of the great joys of any motor sport is seeing drivers/vehicles attach or defend each other with mixed results.

And safariant is right. It is all about cars. Get the best driver whoever he is and put him is say force india or Toro Rosso and he wont win a thing. The competence of a driver would indeed have some effect on the performance but not by much given that F1 already boasts some of the best high speed drivers in the world.

I still follow F1 but find MOTOGP way much more exciting. Now that is Motor Sport. That is racing.

@marimari interesting that you would totally exonerate LH from his tyre issues. In my view LH`s `unrefined` aggressive driving style has a high impact on his tyre issues. Simply put the guy is hard on his tyres.

i agree. the qualifier is usually more interesting because teams try out the various strategies and decide on the one they will use come sunday.

To be fair to F1, I have just watched The Chinese Grand Prix and its the most exciting race I can remember (bar Hamilton win F1 title at the last conner in Brazil)
Lewis Hamilton had a superb race.
But my Driver of Race is Mark Webber. He started on 18th and Finished on the podium in 3rd.
But then again he has a very fast car.

Brilliant race!!! Best since Canada last year...DRS, KERS and the Pirelli tyres are really spicing things up. Roll on Turkey.

Webber just proved that he does not need to be assisted to get to the podium. he was my driver for the day.his KERS was messed up but he managed to make the right decisions and apply the skills to move 15 placed form the start of the race the most significant being the overtaking of Jensen Button with a lap to go.
