I think that the fuel hedges are a more relevant and immediate piece of information rather than the Dreamliners. I am still awaiting some kind soul to avail the research report from Sterling.

Does anyone have the actual research report issued by Sterling. If so kindly post in some file sharing site. As many of you know, I have a significant (to me) amount held in KQ and it happens to be the one stock on which I am underwater.

@Hisah very true but KQ hedges are at US$90 per Barrel

Here is an abstract from my blog post

Good news for KQ shareholders at least one of the pieces in the puzzle is out of the way. With them hedging at US$ 90/barrel that was a good move and it gives little hope that the end year financial statements might be better but note that the Cash Flow Hedges were -1.286B Ksh during the first half of the financial year when oil was trading below $90/barrel . The other pieces of the puzzle remain

1. We need more information on the capital raising exercise
2. More convicing passenger numbers

I expect the share price to remain depressed as the investors try to factor in the two issues

On Friday 15th going by the volatile trend of oil prices, ERC will most likely increase pump prices by 7 - 9% as per the international price volatility. So I expect to see the prices below.

Low estimate...
Super - 102.5 + 7% = 109.60
Diesel - 94.5 + 7% = 101.10

High estimate...
Super - 102.5 + 9% = 111.70
Diesel - 94.5 + 9% = 103.00

I'm not going to bother with jet fuel and kerosene since the same estimates are applicable...

KQ fuel costs will eat into profitability... The share price will remain depressed...
Industrials will continue experiencing high power costs. This is not helped by the fact that Aggreko has another two month contract extension
- http://www.foxbusiness.c...tract-months-newspaper/

And finally, the CPI or inflation index will spike to the double digits.

Unless the smart guys can come up with a way to overhaul the oil dependency curse immediately, I don't see how oil won't break beyond $150, MENA crisis or not...

@ProverB, that's precisely the reason why I am reckoning that the KQ's fuel hedges will determine its short term outlook. If indeed KQ has hedged 50% of their requirements at $90, that can only be positive for now. I would however want some MORE CREDIBLE confirmation of this(other than BD)before I make too much of it.

Profit takers will certainly bring back today's initial rally back to earth, but it appears that a price floor was established at the Kshs 32 level. With the recent positive stories on the counter, I expect it to settle at a higher level of say 34-35.

This price level is likely to spike up shortly before results are released in late May/ early June in the runup to results. I of course assume that the current mood (non-bearish/non bullish) continues.

Note to self. Increase my shareholding (*2) here during the next bear phase, should the counter fall back to the 32 - 33 level. Offload shortly before results announcement or with next level of excitement.

Truth be told, kq is like a shiny red new sports car, cool and great when you get it, then you realise its not so practical, so you just lock it up in the garage since you cant get rid of it without shooting urself in the foot why you got it in the first place. But one bright sunday, you take it out, and brag the hell outta it, if you find an unlucky admirer, dump it on them fast or else its back to the garage.
