We can use Google Earth to show property/plots for sale and even calculate distances in Km/miles/meters etc.

So many people post property for sale here at Wazua. And equally hundreds ask where is the property located? How far is it from such and such place? Perhaps property sellers should identify the property/plot in Google Earth, then get the coordinates (latitudes and Longitude) and post them here. Interested buyers can then enter the coordinates in Google Earth to see location. For example, if I had a plot at Kitingela Yukos, I would post the coordinates 1°30'27.19"S 36°57'12.50"E. If you just copy these coordinates into google earth, you will see the location of the property.

You can download googlearth at this link if you do not have it. http://www.google.com/earth/index.html

I've seen this done in other countries...they give addresses based on google maps and you can even plug them into your vehicle GPS to get there easily.

How often does google map update their files especially the satelite images. I did some developments in Rongai last year August till Nov and yet when I look up at the image for the area, I do not see that development. any idea

The images in Google Earth (and Google Maps) are updated on a continuous basis. It's hard to say exactly because some areas may be updated more frequently than others e.g. big cities like Nairobi(just because that data is more readily available). Overall, most images are no more than 3 years old, but you may occasionally see an older image. BUT any google maps (even old ones) are perfectly okay to show location of property that people may be posting here at Wazua.

Fuchu - at the bottom of Google image, you can see the year the image was taken and uploaded into Google earth.

You can also measure the dimensions of a plot using Google Maps and get the area. Some parts of nairobi have fairly recent 2010 maps.

There is also the 'Street view' option whereby you can virtually walk on the street and view the property. However this covers major countries such as South Africa, US,UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, Australia, New Zealand etc.
