Which is the hottest emerging market in Kenya?

In other words, if you had money to invest in a certain small/ medium sized business, which emerging industry would interest you the most? Which do you think has the most potential for growth?

Mobile apps...if you can invest in good mobile application there is potential in this market...huge potential.

enterprise level or mass market apps? John Waibochi and Erik Hersman have set an extremely high, maybe even daunting precedent for Kenya in this segment

I think both....they are both underdeveloped here in kenya...but to monetize this solutions is the hard part.

so how exactly do you expect to make money in this industry?
What can you invest and make money that has tried and exhausted abroad?

@subzero mobile ads on a popular app.... lets say you come up with a free app that list job vacancies, on that app you can be running paid adverts.Bcoz for a web based app to be successful their should be an incentive to the user or a solution that it solves then you ride on that app.to generate revenues...and mobile ads cut it.

if you consider donor funding a monetisavion method, then I can tell you with certainty that they are looking for agricultural African mobile apps to fund

If ur developing content, adds and solutions for smarter phones, I guess life is sweet. My favourite is this little app for the Iphone from Carling - see here

HOWEVER...
Considering the lion's share of the Kenyan/East African/African mobile market consist of antiquated mulika mwizi's, how does one hack it? It doesn't help that the big guns (Safcom, et al) have muscled in on the market, too.

Is there anything that can be termed as 'emerging' in Kenya really?
Someone starts something and everyone picks it up as the 'new' money maker, you name it - perfumes, oriflame, GNLD, Turkey clothes, Singapole cars, simu ya jamii, mpesa agent, ostrich, rabbit, chameleons, fish ponds, printing tshirts, classified websites and now the new fad - organic farming.
I learned a long time to stick to what I know best after watching enough people burn their fingers in these get rich quickest ventures.

BBI will solve it :)

@subzero copy pasting foreign mobile apps is dangerous as every continent has its own unique set of popular handsets, and the type of app you make is heavily dependent on the handset model. Take for example
Africa where Nokia is king, and iPhone is dead last in terms of market penetration, yet you go to North America, iPhone is king and Nokia is dead last! So that means that their app market is wholly different and not advisable to copy
