This is a serious case, the story was first aired by K24. The district health guys say its a procurement issue, yet in nai, even in the building where I work, there are excess condoms. So annoying

@ Burning spear. maybe be my response is unrelated but National Aids Control Council has it's offices in that new buidling opposite the Nrb Hospital.Recently, citizen tv aired a story about drought some place in lower Eastern and how HIV +ve mums have resulted to breastfeeding their kids because there is no food and then, they are no longer on ARVs because they can not walk on empty stomachs to the go get the medication, mind you,the nearest health centre was sijui in motito....- So Aids council would rather invest in posh offices but not smoothening their operations. Our priorities are always misplaced.....

A man and his wife in a remote area make a decision to control the size of their family while recognising that intimacy is an important part of their lives. They have the knowledge about contraception but are limited by resources and access. They use their initiative to use whatever resources they have to keep what is precious in their relationship and maintain a family that they can best provide for. I look at this story and I see a story of RESPONSIBILITY, INITIATIVE and OVERCOMING small obstacles so as to achieve the greater good. This man is not going around collecting used condoms to wash and use to have casual sex with strangers he is washing the one he bought and continues to use it to have sex with his wife. My dear WAZUZUs my question is SHIDA IKO WAPI?? A good responsible independent man doing his thing and doing it his way and we have an outcry about who is to blame and how he should be helped!! My lesson from this story is: how can I solve my problems with what I have. I may have to compromise a little here a little there or come up with solutions outside the box. Good job Gregory Ekitela. I do not pity you, I respect you.

Following this story, the Ministry of Public Health has come out to indicate they do not have enough condoms to distribute to these areas. The country needs 20 million condoms a month presenting a shortfall of 8 million. The Govt. further admitted making the wrong forecasts (Kenyans are way more active & aware of the HIV scourge) thereby leading to such reported problems. The government is responsible for providing this resource not NGO's. As a result of it's miscalculations and poor load distribution, the Isiolo residents are making do with what they have.

Hapo umedinya point. Compare that with what was happening at MG Gardens and the conclusion 'AIDs awareness campaign is more effective in Isiolo than Kakamega District' might not be that farfetched. There are positive lessons here as well and not just the poor planning by the health/planning ministry
