Have you ever lost a loved one through a road accident on Mombasa Road? Do you know someone who has had to endure the pain of losing a loved one on this road? Have you witnessed a grisly accident on the road? Please sign this petition... and ask friends to sign up too Construct 5 pedestrian footbridges on Mombasa Road

The Petition Reads:

"Background (Preamble):
The sections of Mombasa Road between Capital Centre and Parkside Towers (Zain), and between General Motors and the Nakumatt Embakasi junction have consumed the lives of many pedestrians over the years. While authorities have put up signs asking motorists to slow down, the carnage continues unabated.

With every death on this road is a family left behind mourning in pain, dreams and aspirations suddenly brought to a brutal end, and a bright, promising future destroyed.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, petition the City Council of Nairobi to construct 5 pedestrian footbridges at the following locations along Mombasa Road: Oil Libya in South C, Parkside Towers, General Motors, the Imara Daima junction and the Nakumatt Embakasi Junction.

Because footbridges with solid concrete slabs on the sides many times provide hide-outs for street families, posing a security challenge for pedestrians and discouraging their use, we petition that these new footbridges have metal grills on the sides so that the goings-on on the footbridges can be visible to all.

For the same reason, we ask that no advertising billboards be erected on the sides of these footbridges to obscure them from the public. Finally, we petition that these footbridges be well-lit at night for ease of use by pedestrians even in darkness."

Again, please sign the petition at Construct 5 pedestrian footbridges on Mombasa Road

There's a remote possibility they will, subzero. But we were actually thinking of printing the petition along with all signatures and presenting it. Don't you think this is a better approach than waiting for CCN to read it? - Don't need a response, just loud thoughts :)

Are you sure you are not petitioning the wrong party? The last time I checked, Mombasa road did not fall under CCN.

Thanks Mwenda. Who should we petition? :) Granted, repair and maintenance of the road does not fall under CCN. But street lighting for that road, putting up / the approval of erection of sheds at bus stops, approval of erection of billboards, clearing of bushes along the road etc still remain CCN's responsibility, is it not? And so is construction of pedestrian footbridges along the road. By the way, do you think that the authorities need to do something to stem the tide of bodies being carted to morgues from that road? They surely cannot say they are unaware of the carnage

You should petition the Ministry of Roads or more precisely KURA/KeNHA..........CCN does not do footbridges across roads they don't control. My experience is that for unknown reasons, people are rarely keen on using the footbridges across roads.

KURA=KENYA URBAN ROAD AUTHORITY
KeNHA=KENYA NATIONAL HIGHWAY AUTHORITY

But must people be forced to do what is clearly to their benefit?
