It is a shame that even in this day and age we have not yet divorced politics from the performance of the stock market. How in hell would we spend 70million on shuttle diplomacy even after we have been expressly told that the deferral can only work with a legitimate court in place and ongoing prosecution of the six on similar charges. &0 million n i know u all saw what 70 million can do to this country like resettling was it 1666 IDPs or even paying FPE for primary students. So in total we've spent 101 million on a lost cause yet people are still dying of hunger even in ukambani. If that is not enough, note that investors are been scared by our actions and this can be clearly illustrated in how the Ksh has been performing in the last 2days with yesterday's exchange rates hitting record highs. where are we heading? Is our politics more important than the markets? Yeah we know that markets are efficient and as such will reflect all information including political or sovereign risk. That is what is happening now, and if it persists, imagine what it will be next year, the CMA might as well deal with that before the demutualization process which by the way i fully support

Seeing as it is, that politics is now taking centre stage, what chances of NSE recovery are there before elections in 2012? Is it the appropriate time to keep investing and hope to reap post 2012? First timer, so excuse me if this has been doscussed before. Thanks!

'politicians are hypocrites they don't wanna listen' 2pac once said that. Kenyan scenario, Kalonzo given a political rope to hang himself with of which he gladly does. Most of us have started separating noise from real danger and as of now it is noise which will go away.Impunity is going to be done away with once and for all. A new generation of smart and aggressive Kenyan investing public is coming up partly tainted with the dirty murk of the old but the eyes and brains of the future.
I do believe that the Adan Mohamed's, MOO's, Vimal Shah's, Etemesi's, Ayisi Makatiani's & the other good business leaders out there are fighting it out but on the investment front.
And i do know that when you have the money the politician always listens and not the other way round.
Ladies & Gentlemen lets make money coz that's the only language most people listen to.

On the other hand and with a political view...VP will use this to garner support from Uhuru & Ruto supporters fronting that he atleast tried to help them. They've thrown Sambili into the mix to give him more crediblity!! I am certain Kalonzo knows he can't obtain the defferal.

Politics is about perception, and the perception that has already been created out there is that Kalonzo is roving around so as to get the votes. Wikileaks adds salt to his injury by depicting him as the person who awaited for Bush to ask Kibaki not to run for the same reason. Remember Kenyans are more informed and get to hear the above courtesy of one Mr. Macharia in their own language. I tell you nobody votes for a coward and he will be eaten alive by many politicians on this.
Funny enough even Ruto & Uhuru don't like & trust him & take him as one of the old guys.

as much as we would want to get the money and make them listen to us, the problem is with this kind of political noise, maybe we should be looking at off shore investments but the problem will then be getting the information and the returns will be lower as compared to our semi-strong efficient market where insider information, public information and at times even prices go up with out any fundamental backing from the company's announcements.

my advice to you is do your research and monitor the business trends around your investments. So what about "insider info" - in this world someone has to know so what I made a profit/averted a loss? When lights r cut @ ur house aren't u the 1st to know/experience?
