...and always be careful: the trees might block your view of the forest.... since 2006, mt portfolio has grown over 20-fold (2,000%)! But it has dropped 20% the last 6months; so should I panic and start selling?
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Otherwise the loss is only conceptual...

So, EQT has dropped from 30 to 24, but its earnings were more than 50% up. Have you lost 6 bob or gained 50% in profits?

You only lose when you sell!

@Mukiha, todays investor looks at wealth maximization & not only profit maximization. The biggest question is normally how much i'm i worth today and not 10 years to come.
Why do you look at volumes & liquidity of a share in a market?
If i know that i can make a loss of 10% on an investment i"m holding and make 20% on another, i'll gladly sell at a loss and make my 10% net coz in the long run its about what i have not what i anticipate!

If I have the cash... the best I can get is 10% over 10 years in a CBK Bond.

I am happier to hold shares [in good firms at fair prices] over 10 years. There are no guarantees but why not get a 4% dividend while I wait for the EPS [& dividend] to grow?
