Guys,I need cover for me & my son.
Please assist me with information on which insurance companies in Kenya offer good, genuine medical insurance cover for Individuals. I have been with AAR,but suddenly they have declined my application saying there's a discrepancy in height/weight ratio.
Previously was with Resolution but had a very nasty experience.
Please assist me with direction where else to go.
Thanks.

With AAR too and apart from BUPA (??) I do not think there is any other better ones. Have had no issues with them so far but knowing HMOs generally it is probably a matter of time. Is the height weight issue the BMI one? If so maybe you need to sort it out - will overall be good for your health.

Equity bank, together with UAP have a product called Equihealth and its affordable and tiered to suit different needs. It also covers some exclusions normally left out by pple like AAR (with waiting periods from signing up) Even covers some dental work, pregnancies, etc.

BTW,I have said this before - do not run for 'prestige' and the gold AAR sticker - I was an AAR member a while back and perhaps to cut costs, the (less expensive, inexperienced) docs they engage now leave a lot to be desired - esp for paediatrics. No - it might 'look' prestigious to have that AAR bumper sticker but in actual fact you are just another number in the out patient room.

If you are fat(lets cut the crap about BMI),no insurance company will touch you. its an exclusion criteria. Enda gym, punguza weight. its good for you, your family, your doctor and yhe insurance.

if you indicate you were with another HMO but left,They will want to know why. hence they will clasify you as high risk- higher premiums or they will just decline.

I dont work for AAR neither do i have cover with them. however,i know they ofer good service. the problem with the middle class is that they hink they know everyhing. hence they want to dictate how they will be treaated. My doc friends always complain abt 'employees in age grp 20-35,who have recently been coveredwho behave like our MPs' . the rich, very calm, polite and patient!

the best for you, take an inpatient cover. get a good paeditrician 4 ua kid, physician for yourself, gyne for your wife. kama una homa, nunua dawa kwa pharmacy!

About being fat?? What if your genetically fat?
In our family we are all big. even the new born tois are big.
None of us has been sick, even my hum who is big and over 60 doesnt have diabetes or hypertension.
Personally im slightly overweight, but i gym 3 times a week & im the same weight i was when i left high school 15 years ago.
Does that mean u will not be able to get an insurance cover in Kenya or u will have to go for international covers like BUPA?

We need more money amongst us!

Just try Equihealth my dear,it's a much better option...walk into any equity bank or UAP offices and get the Equihealth brochure...it's not hard to understand their terms and all.

All the best:)

@leona,

Have you used the Equihealth thing before? Is it reliable?
