WRONG!

VERY WRONG!

Do you really think 1ha = 100acres? that's what you calculation gives.

Acres are imperial quantities, so they are NOT define in terms of metres. My diary says 1acre = 4,840 square yards; 1 yard = 3ft, 1ft = 12 inches, 1inch = 2.54cm

Now if you work backwards, you will see that you are very wrong.

My diary says, 1ha = approx 2.4711acres.

=============

Now; what we call 1/8 is actually approx 50ft x 100ft. I.e., 5,000sq.ft. But if check 1/8 of acre from the diary definition, you find that it is bigger than 5,000sq.ft.

My guess is that if the plot is surveyed as a proper rectangle, it probably measures 40ft x 80ft

U r wrong on the first but right on the second one.

1 acre=4046.9 sq. M (say 40 X 100 Metres.)
1 hectare= 10,000 sq. M (100M X 100M)

Hectare sawa. 100m*100m or a football field. I thought an acre was 220ft by 220ft but something is not adding up. How do we arrive at 2.471 as we know it?

Why bother your brain stuff with all those conversion when Dr.Internet the great mathematician is there? I always go HERE for conversion needs and more.

Answer::
An acre is actually, slightly less than (220 ft by 220 ft)
1 acre is approx. 43,560 sft , that should be around (220 ft X 198 ft)

If u do the conversion, 1 hectare (10,000 sqm) to sft should give you 107,643 sft (10,000/0.0929 or 10,000 X 10.7643)

so working with these:-

107,643/43,560 = 2.4711
