In what is being touted as a landmark directive that is likely to have a domino effect across the country and evoke jealous admiration in the EAC, the AU and beyond, the Nairobi City Council Town Clerk yesterday announced that city drivers have up to April to break the highway code with reckless abandon.

The move that is expected to generate more dust than light on Nairobi roads, encourages motorists to zoom through pedestrian crossings, drive on pavements, jump lights at random and crash into crowds of pedestrians for sport - ONLY up to April.

Already, motorists and pedestrians are up in arms urging the city council to extend the open season for a further two months till June in the hope that the extra 2 months will help raise the death toll significantly.

Analysts are hailing the announcement as another global first for Kenya, coming hot on the heels of (and will probably upstage) the award winning MPESA.

Seriously, where in the world do law enforcers give you a two month grace period to continue doing what is already illegal before they nab you? Only in Kenya.
