What's the point of splitting a share whose market price is around 60 - 70? One could still get 100 pieces for less that sh10k!

I don't see their logic.

i still insist..BOD allowed this to appease shareholders who "un-informedly" sic want to know during AGM's why the share price has been sliding since the time they announced bonus n split
There is nothin fundamental to warrant the split..
unless to hoodwink people that at 17 bob..BBK is "growing" faster than similarly priced bank stocks. juvenile!

..Jamani..all other splits where announced when share was trading well over 200 bob...including the infamous E.A Cables of which rumours of split were so rife while it was at 35 but eventually announced when stock was riding past 300..
no other stock has been split while trading below 100 bob.. ever.. i could be wrong considering my focus on this market spans only 10 years.. may be someone could enlighten us.

BBK's move is just fishy..

It is the choice of BBK shareholders... Why are people getting hot under the collar?

I wondered what was making this stock be the most gainer yesterday. The mkt picked the tag line 51% profit increase en ran with it but without analysing the constituents of the profit increase to one off B/L sheet effects that will not be repeated sale of the custodial services en recovery of bad debts.

Lets wait for other banks to report then analys BBks growth vis avis other banks on all indicators. we may just wonder how nil the performance is .

My two cents
The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence

Under normal circumstances the stock would have rallied much more than it did but the reason it was up ONLY 10% was precisely because of the poor operational results...

the slight rally is because the current dividend yield is just too sweet to ignore.

Ok. there are no hard and fast rules about this. But splitting 4:1 a an nse share trading at 60, is a bit suspicious given history, unless barclays wants to create a new trend of what is "right" absolute price and "affordable"??. By the way what did they say is reason for splitting?

The share will just rally upwards because of excitement and then all the excited fellas will start disposing and then it rallies downwars. If you ask, those incomes of bbk are one off. There interest income is not rising and they have bo room to cut on costs since they already did this years back

This is called an explosion.

There is nothing to write home about..its all smoke and mirrors..I can bet the share will not cross 70..if anything it could fall back to lower 60s..the one off profit has to b factored in any analysis.I must say since the share did the previous split the fortunes for the bank have bn all downhill.
Maybe its time for a change of management..clearly the bank requires fresh ideas
10% growth is not acceptable....
If I were a shareholder results for the 1st Qtr 2011 would b a great determinant if the current management should be given more time..
Anything less than 25% growth on the bottomline should not b tolerated..

Am in a small debate of the split 4:1
someone says its a split of 4 shares for every single share held i.e if you have 12 then you get (12*4)=48 your total holding comes to (48+12)=60.

Another says its a split for every 4 shares you have you will get 1 i.e if you have 12 then you will get(12/4)=3 your total holding comes to (3+12)=15

whats your take?
My 2 cents

@Jamani.....you will end up with 60shares.However,the new price will be around 17sh (70sh/4).
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.
