Whatever 2-digit number you choose, if you follow the instruction, the answer will always be a multiple of 9. These multiples of 9 have the same gift. e.g 51: 51-5-1=45, 59: 59-5-9=45.
98: 98-9-8=81, 94: 94-9-4=81.

i have figured out this:

lets say you pick 34 from the gifts,
add 3+4 = 7, add 7 to 34 = 41
work inversely, i.e 41-4-1= 36

to increase the fooling around, the gifts change every time, with multiples of 9 getting the same gift.

all the other numbers are mere fill ups

for example, which number do you subtract from to get 1? NONE

but kudos to the inventor of the game....good for Githurai conmen on sunday. they can keep on guessing right every time.
