Not surprising given the number of people using their mobile phones for data. Is that percentage based on users or bandwidth?

@qw, uncouth and uncalled for. In the one sentence you have disparaged the great hardworking mothers of Kenya and the fine young ladies who tour this site.

@selah not sure that's what @Eddy was alluding to? Perhaps this story by CIO East Africa
Mobile data: comparison of Kenya mobile operators
would be more appropriate.

Nevertheless, from the two stories it's undisputable:
-Safaricom has 92% data market share (revenue share would be perhaps 65%)
-Safaricom is the mobile operator with the fastest Internet speeds

It's about time they did so... coz jeez they're so much behind schedule. Remember they were to launch it in April (almost 3 months ago)!!!

@AllanK: Boss you are pretty lucky to have got 1.5Mbps. You must have been a solo user; try it as many people jump in, you will degrade to Kbps range. Competition in the data front would be most interesting, and give subscribers a choice.

@Kulchaz: What throuputs are you getting with Orange?
@AllanK: HSPA+ 21Mbps is what Safaricom has on 3G, not to mention their 4G trial. To get 21Mbps for any operator, all network conditions MUST be perfect (which is a sheer impossibility) and the user must be the ONLY user in that cell at that time (which is a rare occurance). That is why you will never get 21Mbps on 3G mobile broadband - on any network, anywhere in the world. In 4G, you may because the maximum theoretical throughputs are quite higher.

@Barrywhite:Safaricom has HSDPA 7.2Mbps and not HSPA+ 21Mbps.
