@QD: The number of people plugged into the internet is not as large as you think

@ QD - i totally agree with you. an increase in prices does not justify as the contents are copied directly from websites. on top of that, they still go on and make mistakes.

People have access to vocal media - TVs and Radio stations and the news out there are more current, updated and serve a larger audience..

Well, QD people dont only buy newspapers for news only. They have educative materials,entertainment,
leave alone connecting the buyers to the supplier, the employers to the employees to be,etc so there are very many reasons one wouldn't mind parting with ksh.50.

Now, I guess the price is really not about the quality of the newspaper.

They will justify that printing paper and other print related costs have gone up. They have to factor for increase in other administrative costs including salaries for employees. Then again remember that managers are accountable to shareholders and they must report better profits to justify why they are there.

They know that a Kshs 5 increase may have not affect the number of newspapers sold. Remember we have different newspaper addicts. Some go for job adverts, other for tenders, others for business adverts, then there those who are addicted to politics, others to the Saturday and Sunday magazines.

By the way very few Kenyan's read news on the website

Actually, they don't copy off the websites, those sites syndicate their content. Perhaps the papers are getting a raw deal since the material is freely and publicly available.
