The hawker could also get the money and deposit it in any of the banks which will have massive profits after tax. The net effect is that the government still gets the same money they could have gotten from safcom but from different sources.
The arguments forwarded that the government will lose revenue aren't correct at all.
With the current storm in the mobile phone industry, I think the final blow to some industry players will be in April where the mobile number portability concept will be rolled out.Those who are still trying to fight for market share and have poor network quality will be on the receiving end.
