Ooh how fast we forget! The day you will meet these thugs you will know they deserve no mercy. You might surrender and give them everything but they still proceed to rape your wife and daughter as you watch and kill one or two people just for the heck of it. We always see this stuff on the news.

Our judicial system is crap, we don't have forensic labs etc. If those thugs had been arrested they would have been back on our streets in a few weeks/months. Maybe the same cops had arrested the same thugs some time last year! Those cops might just have saved your/my life by killing those thugs. Maybe I/you could have been their victim some time in March!

Some of us have very nice theoretical frameworks, codes of conduct etc but the reality on the ground is different. You, Maina Kiai, Jaoko and crew go arrest this thugs - some of them ex military - who have superior weapons and then we'll talk.

I prefer order to anarchy but I'm also alive to the realities of the day!

how quickly we forget these very policemen shooting people in the back in 2007? How quickly we forget a certain gentleman shot by a cop in a bar brawl then the cop went to report he shot the most wanted gangster?

how quickly we forget....

Anarchy is when you have policemen who BELIEVE that they cannot enforce the LAW.

Absolute Anarchy is when the citizenry does not know the difference between a cop and the rapist thug.

REALITY is when you know in your heart that Jesus would not have done what that criminal did.

It's ironical the mixed feelings we perceive this incident with, which is a pointer to the circumstances we find ourselves in - a country with a poor judicial system.

I have never been involved in a car jacking or violent robbery incident and I thank God for that every day and pray that I never get in one, so I would understand when someone who has experienced it praises the cop in the front page for swift justice executed.

On the other hand, I know that there are innocent people who have been shot in cold blood though in this case the guys lying on the ground had a gun retrieved from them (according to witnesses) so in all likelihood they're thugs who have and were probably about to commit crimes. I feel nothing for such - live by the gun and you shall die as such.

I also put myself in the cop's shoes, knowing that you'll arrest these guys and they'll be out in a bit, endangering people's lives and yours as well. Frustrated by the system, I prefer to execute while I can...but in broad daylight on a busy highway??If that's not impunity then blistering barnacles! Not that putting them in a boot and going to Ngong forest is any better but this is not right...a cop has to try and get some good evidence to put these guys away, otherwise one should not be in a system they don't believe in.

How many of these have happened without being caught on camera?Remember the 6 taxi drivers shot in cold blood by cops a while back? Where has their case reached now. While I support the fight against crime, summary executions will not help.

This government has failed us in so many ways it will be cursed forever. If I was a cop, I'd probably be doing the same but whatever happened to conscience?Maisha mbaya...

I may come accross as not supporting the cops. But I am.

I want cops to be given all the tools they need to fight crime. I want them to get new housing. New cars, health insurance, college fees paid for their kids. And I want the gov't to increase taxes to pay for this.

Instead we have a system where politicians would rather pay for those in the Hague than nature our police force.

I have friends who are very saved in the police force. Believe me when I tell you, that incident makes them feel worse than I do. It is those cops that I am fighting for. So that one day, they can tell their kids, I was a policeman and helped my country even when the odds were against me.

I will support the policeman who is working in what is Kenya today. To the hilt!

But have no doubt about it, any policeman in that photo is not a policeman but a murderer.

The arguement for "weak judiciary" does not hold water.

It is the work of the police to present evidence of criminal activities, if they can't do this then they should not expect the judges to condemn based on nothing.

If this cops knew these guys were criminals going to commit crimes, then they should have got the evidence, built an airtight case and presented it to a court of justice.

However, these are not real cops, they are too busy stealing and colluding with thugs to uphold the law which they swear to do.

The adage applies.. live by the gun, die by the gun. I can bet those cops cannot move as freely as they would want

@Obi your point is valid. But even the judicial system is corrupt. My lawyer friend tells me you'd not believe the kind of bribes judges are taking before the judicial overhaul and vetting process takes root...and of course they've been taking for a long time!

The rot in our systems is a a huge iceberg that will take a long time to eradicate

Totally agree with you.

And a policeman who kills a criminal or an innocent person either in trying to arrest the same, protect his life or by a stray bullet is totally different from one who kills a criminal or a suspect in cold blood like in this instance. The latter is a murderer and no different from the criminals that infect our world. Indeed they are actually criminals (murderers) under our laws. Sad to see that they have so much in common with some 'decent' Kenyans.

Though I do not support this type of execution, the judicial system must be fixed to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done.
On the flip side, armed criminals will execute their prey (including cops) without thinking twice!!
