@Mwenza, never thought about it lakini it is used by their "in-house ombudsman" maybe to enhance confidentiality for whistle blowers.

Dear Wendz,
before you go to the police mboys, please do this test on your own.

1.has anyone broken into your house?
2.most passports get lost while you are travelling, when did you last see your passport?
3.does your house help etc.. have access to your bedroom and therefore your valuables?
4.did you let in a stranger in your house?eg a fundi or electrcian etc...Laughing out loudly
5.did you move house?

the police may need to interrogate all this people......Laughing out loudly

Goodluck with your new one.
....i renewed mine last year.the process was quick and swift.

that bit about reporting to police is very impt, as is the case when you ever lose any of your identity docs - you never know who will use it/ your identity to do what or commit what fraud/ robbery, etc and reporting it may asap will help you overcome tons of grief later on. Chunga identity theft.

@Intel.. ID theft is already here with us. Thats why at the Dept of Immigration they have devised a system of invalidating lost passports and sharing this info with Interpol.

I know of several cases where cons use "lost" ids of other people to gain access into their accounts, get other documents such as passports in their names, commit frauds using these documents. All they need to do is substitute the photo on ID with their own and not alter anything else.
@Wendz Essentially the info about loss will be downloaded/interrogated from you at the Dept of Imm.
