@Sasha,

Most car restoring garages/mechanics specialize on certain model(s)........It would help to know what kind of a car you want to restore......Don't be shy of joining the league of bijuti owners.......-:)........Wewe kwisa.....!!

@Njung'e

Its not a bijuti! From the experiences I've seen here, I would not touch a bijuti with a barge pole!

It is a Ford Escort, very beaten up, I believe more rusted than your bijuti! It is the 1984 sports model!

@Sasha - is that the Ford Escort as known as Ford Laser (a hatchback)? Might be hard to maintain that unless you undertake some modifications...an idea is to shop around at the concours (I belive in Aug/Sep) - either for advice or a buyer (even as a Rally car - there are much older escorts rallying around) - if it was a Mini I'd point you in the right direction....

@Djinn,
84 model is unlikely to be a 'Laser'.............I bet it must be a Ford Escort 'G'.Had a wide wheelbase and lo CoG than a laser.Engine/parts are compatible with quite a number of EU models of it's age.The problem might be body kits although i know you can get them from outside the country.....

@Djinn:

Njung'e is absolutely right. It is the G model 1.6L GT.

@Njung'e

Please do not say out of the country because I will just abandon the project all together! I'm thinking of buying a new engine, have it panel beaten properly mpaka ikuwe nyweeee! Redo the interior (dashboard looks like a cutting board) and put in new wheels! Mambo ya outside the country will not do!

@Sasha,
You may get a few integral parts,or their equivalents locally,but the dashboard i highly doubt.You may have someone in the know have a look at your car and they surely should give you a good opinion and a provisional quote.......Be warned.Restoring this things is a pricey affair.

Thank you Njung'e! That is exactly what I'm looking for, someone in the know! So far I've got one qoutation as follows:

Engine: Toyota Levin for Kshs 40,000/-

Interior: Including upholstery,wiring and dashboard: Kshs 35,000/-

Panel beating & Paint job: Kshs 50,000/-

Wheels: Kshs 35,000/-

Thats Kshs 160k which I thought was on the higher side. Thoughts?

Njunge,dude,I am belittled by your knowledge smile @Sasha - 160k is not really much if the car will be as good as new - esp the wiring and interior. I think you can haggle a bit on the body work and if the wheels are wheels (rim plus tyre)35 k is fine if you are getting alloy rims + tyres (cant be bigger than 13' i think) What about outside parts like lenses,headlights,etc? And I think if you want to ditch it,at least try to shop around for enthusiasts - put up a poster at Sarit or sthg.
