Maisha at Serena

About 135,000 per annum; but you have to be a member. To be a member you have to be introduced by a member.

I am not a member.

The beginning of the year Gyms are always packed by New-year revolutionists...seek somewhere convenient and suits you, otherwise it shall get boring!
It's really hard being everything to everybody, you actually end up being nothing to nobody!

why pay so much...am up by 5.30am ready for a serious non-nonsense run. In my estate if you have no car and are up at that time the dogs will give you the flight of your life to the next street.
it is cheap, and the barking, yappings mongrels are enough incentive to make you run so fast david rudisha would be embarassed. any I cant afford to make excuses ati today I dont feel like running fast. Liar

What do u want to do in the gym: treadmill or weights. If it's treadmill @intellingentsia has a useful suggestion.

There's a gym opposite Nakumatt UKAY that's not so bad. Can't remember the name. Lots of parking and I think should be <6k. Also another nearly opposite Bandari Plaza on woodvale grove. Parking may be a problem though.

Adams Arcade, I think is < 4k monthly. There's also Impala, not sure of the rates but they are reasonable too and their gym is relatively new.

If you decide on the Langata area as @jkmwatha has proposed, you can venture further up the road to Sadili Oval (Malezi School). Don't know the rates but its nice and other activities too, both for you and the kids.

How effective is a gym? Especially the treadmill? I used to think am so sawa since i would hit the treadmill at speeds of 12-20Kph consistently for like 20 minutes, reducing the speed to 5-10 for the last 10 minutes or so.

...until I tried the real thing - running on the road, you realize how unfit you are. So, if you can, hit the road early in the morning and come back to the house to shower then head to work. Do press-ups, a bit of weights in the house (you can improvise with jerricans, mitungi, mama etc, run up and down the stairs. Its super effective and very cheap.

Precisely, and if possible do some swimming at least once a week - some concils schools have swimming pools and charge kshs 100/session. You will be sawasawa.

whenever you excersise in the gymn try to force your body to be natural if in a treadmill alternate do different things and not routine infact try random to simulate normal life, otherwise i agree you can run for 30 mins but in real life even walking 10 mins become a challenge
