Thank you Djinn! I don't intend to sell it coz it has sentimental value. I'd actually forgotten about those outside parts.

I'm still looking for someone in the know and not those Mash Auto or Auto Perfection chaps!

Got another quote today from the Unity Garage chaps!

Interior: 45k

Wheels (14' alloy rims plus tyres): 36k

Body works (panel beating, spraying): 55k

Electrics (wiring,lenses,headlights): 40k

I found these guys damn expensive!

for those who want panel beating,I would recommend VAS AUTOMOBILE in industrial area opp House of Manji. This guys mean business when it comes to their profession. They are appointed agents for AA and also undertake repairs for UN and even some Govt cars of course due to quality work. They have huge cranes and robots just like those garages in Europe. I found them quite good and prices for individuals are competitive!

....Sasha; why don't you take it to Mash auto for,is it 'souping'? or one does that after collecting and fixing all the parts?

@Magigi: It is not souping. It is restoration. Souping is for teenagers! I just want the car restored to be as new! Plus the Mash Auto guys are too extravagant. Their interior work including wiring and lighting was quoted at 80k, wheels cost 45k, and body work and painting was quoted 65k! This is before I even buy a new engine which they quoted 80k for a Toyota Levin!

@Sasha

Will the car be comfortable when all that is done,why are you bothering to restore the car when the only aspect of the original car it retains is the body shape.

I've noticed the youth in particular coming in to a workplace with a completely outsized notion of their own value and importance... just a thinly-veiled arrogance. May be the credit crunch induced recession is whats needed to remind us all about the value of hard work.... By Anonymous

@JKMwatha & Obi wan!

I wish I could get a new ford engine but those things are damn expensive. Plus, can I get a new Ford Escort engine? Do they still make them? I thought the closest I could get would be a Ford Falcon engine. As much as I want to restore (convert for you JK) it, I also don't want to disfigure my finances!

The car will be comfortable. I just want to have an alternative to drive over the weekend or on my local tourism drives. It has a sentimental value, that's why I don't want to see it rot away due to neglect.

@Sasha- you dont want to import? Why give yourself limitations?

tafuta on ebay uk... possibly £15-30k max. used +any other parts you need (Always honest descriptions - hauwezi danganywa)....
ask that cazo of yours (here honesty might come at a premium) in UK to send through wale waria wa eastliegh (?) You pay for delivery when it arrives (deliveries weekly).
No duty/no tax/no other costs... (unless your rela charges his/her own VAT).

@JkMwatha: Haiya! I have a cazo in UK? Did not know that!

Import from ebay? Never thought of that. I had budgeted a total of 150k which I hoped to negotiate down to 130k. I will check out what I can find on ebay. Thank you for your advice! Much appreciated!
