Ati this will reduce hiv infections according to the gospel of one dr Muraguri. Isn't this a pefect eg of what the white man's education has enslaved us. Dont circumcised men get infected- so shall we cut off their members? Doesnt this rite have any other importance other than keep off hiv? especially in respect to African traditions for those who practice it- which was meant to make real men and not mere trouser wearers. muthuri mwanake

another primitive idea from the so called african intellectuals. such caveman's mentality has chained this continent in poverty and misery for decades. the problem with our leaders and opinion makers is that they just dream something at night and try to implement it the next morning trying to force their warped thinking down our throats, who can forget uhuru's 'vision' of bus lanes and matatus terminating at muthutrwa? of course it never worked! think about dr. mutua's solo mentality of beautifying the city with pieces of stupid stones while cutting down trees and flowers? or the mayor's 'vision' of easing traffic jams by hiking parking fees? of course that daft idea has not worked! bY aNy MeAns NecEsSaRy.....

I vigorously disagree with this dr guy. We are talking about an important rite of passage in our tradition. At this point boys become men and start bahaving like mature responsible men. No more running down the roads with tyres etc. If the cut is done at birth men in our community will become big boys as there is no cut-off date b2n childhood and adult life. I dont want to talk for the communities that dont have the cut in their customs. offcourse i know they have their own rite of passage, but in my tribe its unacceptable.

Noble I feel you but...culture changes. Think of how dowry has evolved...traditionally there was no money, but now it is accepted as dowry payment. So dowry is there but has evolved, similarly circumcision is just a cosmetic thing....the real thing is the counselling during initiation to adulthood Zama za Kengen IPO.... zama za mali

@zamali I concur culture changes. But no amount of counselling will initiate a boy into adulthood. eg. If you take a boy from a group of say ten; who are always playing together and try to counsel him to leave the rest and behave like his dad,you will fail. Considering the boys who grow together are not always agemates meaning they are initiated at different times, then counselling will fail.

@noble I agree with you. I am just thinking. For our brothers who do not practice the cutting, when they are told to do it to prevent infections, will they not be promiscous? Sleeping like a littel baby
