To use microsoft or Linux or other OSs is a personal decision.

most people are on microsoft because it the most common albeit a big number of them using pirated versions. Another fact for most people sticking to microsoft are the investment made within windows - like customised applications running on windows,hardware having only windows drivers available etc.

If no real loss for switching to linux,it may be the best decision. For start-ups it can a be an excellent leverage by using open sourced software.
