HOW POSSIBLE IS THIS? Was at Equity Custodial finding out on financing on the right issue. Surprisingly I was advised not to bother buying the rights from the Market and instead apply for as much additional rights as I can afford n am guaranteed full allocation! I smell a slight under/oversubscription. Tue and wed will give a beta picture if its not extended! Out to you guys!

@underweight i also feel thats possible. its likely most of the gova. rights wont be brought to the market so they lapse. as such those who apply for extra rights get full allocation. the untaken rights then get to be taken by equity and centum. si hata wao wanataka hizi rights? and how else can they get them? that could be their strategy. its risky anyway for those who want extra rights.

Its obvious! Govt would get less than a bob per right if the current going rate is 2 bob! But Govt can negotiate with EB and Centum to get a premium over and above the market price.

@youcantstpnw so that they are picked by equity and centum disguising that they are lapsed rights whereas in real sense only a few are brought to the market!

@tupac. Ur view seems logical. Why underwrite a good stock? How many rights have been traded so far? Methinks huge deals(already concluded) will be flashed! thro the mrkt on tue/wed at premium of 1-1.50.

What are the likely scenario for KPLC share price after closure of right on Wed 15? Am foreseeing the following. 1. A slight rally as those who didn't manage to get the rights from the market trying to accumulate while its fairly price. 2. A slight dip as shareholder try to offload to raise some cash for rights payment. 3. The share stagnate around 22.5- 23.5 range till announcement of right take up. Wat your take on this.

@uw, I'll bet on scenario 1 so that I off-load! some of my shares @25/ at least. When the rights start selling, the price cud go down due to increased supply. As for cash for settlement of rts, I believe there are far more other options apart from selling kplc.

It's a public holiday most people are at home and there's no power. I'd have thought they'd use the money from the rights to improve the dilapidated and outdated network or put in place a functioning customer service centre. To me vandalism and servicing is an excuse. Power blackouts for more than 10 minutes should be unacceptable in this day and age. It's a total rip-off to customers.

@all. Why is kplc shoving this rights issue down our throats? Its good to advertise thoroughly and all, but i think they are overdoing it. Which makes me abit superstitious. I dont remember kcb rights issues or tps or stanchat, being advertised like this. Hizi vitu za watu wengi.....???

money has been paid for advertising the rights issue, just like the kengen IPO was done. and that is what they are doing, let us not blame them.

My friend @guru, the money has already been allocated. I'm actually shocked that you don't know what they intend to do with it.
Personally I don't think expansion is the immediate priority but ensuring the existing customers are happy. Would you believe many areas went without power yesterday because kplc had switched it off?

at times KPLC put off the poower in order to do maintainance or repairs for the good of the clients.

I'm not complaining. I'm just saying that in this day and age they should be able to service whatever they service without switching off elec every month. Where else do you see these tabias? Some businesses are fully dependent on electricity.

2012 is right. There is maintenance work even in developed countries....but I don't think electricity goes off every other day.I have a stall in Rongai fully dependent on electricity and woe unto you if you have no generator!
Some things are just so 3rd world yet we pay on time every month!
