Guys me i am totally confused......I need holiday and advice....

SHOULD I INVEST IN KPLC RIGHTS @ 19.5/-
OR IN KCB ?

What i m thinking or what is bugging me is, if i invest in

KPLC 1000 shares x 19.5 = 19500/=
OR
KCB 1000 shares x 21.5 = 21500/=

THEN
kplc dividend will be 1 x 1000 = 1 k
kcb dividend will be 1 x 1000 = 1 k
(PLEASE CORRECT IF I HAVE TAKEN WRONG FIGURES)

Now what about the capital gains.....
which one u think will give good returns after one year or two years.......(kplc will be under government management is there any problem if they manage this company)
I want to be a millionaire.
My 2 cents

Divide your money in two and invest in both equally. No one knows how the future will turn out.

I am seeing KPLC price rally now that the share will be more liquid unlike before the split. this is am opportunity many have been waiting for, do not be left behind.

energy sector is good to invest in there is a lot of potential but KPLC is just one lame duck company that has no ambition. This is a company that at times tells its consumers not to consume its products. As Maina Kageni said KPLC knows the directions to your house when it wants to disconnect power but you have to provide a map when you want re-connection. It has too much red tape in its procurement and it will now be worse as the government now has majority stake. The management and staff are just uninspiring. IMO 10billion in rights issue is modest to achieve the task ahead.
KPLC is giving government majority shareholding to qualify for sovereign guarantees for its future debts so it will taking a lot of debt now that the balance sheet is clean.
Looking at the information memorandum for KPLC and KCB i would rather go with KCB

I would vote K.P.L.C over K.C.B because the future is extremely bright for K.P.L.C especially at current prices and K.C.B manage their asset base very poorly and are open to many provisions due to its interaction with G.O.K

why KPLC:
1. As any economy grows so does its energy requirement which has to be distributed(KPLC). Kenya's economy is expected to grow at 5%.
2. Govt's 5 yr infrastructure & energy investment & development plan.
3. KPLC's investment in prepaid meters thus reduction in bad debts.
4. Creation of more paying points thus costs reduced.
5. Electrical items deemed luxuries becoming necessities e.g. fridges thus billing juu.
6. Transmission taken up by KETRACO thus concentrates on distribution.
7. MONOPOLY

Will transmission being taken up by KETRACO lead to any decline in revenue for KPLC?

KETRACO is a transmission company meaning it will own most of the new transmission lines that are set up but almost all these new lines will be managed by K.P.L.C to handle distribution...

IMHO the only way this will affect K.P.L.C is it will greatly reduce the pace of their asset growth but it might actually benefit them profitwise because of reduced costs on asset maintainance

Kcb expand into Tz, Ug, Ss, Rwanda etc. Kplc in kenya only. Marginal cost of acquiring one customer by kcb lower than for kplc. In the longterm the future of kcb is brighter.

kplc is suppose to connect all kenyans with power-monopoly. While not all kenyans may not open an account with kcb infact for every 10 customers for kplc only 3 may and only may open account with kcb. Ni sawa ndugu au dadangu
