This is totally unwarranted KulaRaha...I also live within one minute of a mosque but I would not go down this road. I try to think of all the other noises and wonder why its just this one that you come up with - why not the noisy matatu with school kids in it? Why not the crazy No9 and No 6 matatu horns and music? Why not the street preachers and roaming evangelists who set up tents within residences,etc...?



We should eschew religious intolerance as much as tribalism. Sorry to be blunt,but,even as Anglican,I think you could have thought this over a bit more...

@kularaha - that problem is inherent in democracy and human rights - suppose we said that a Hindu temple that portrays different types pf gods (monkeys,elephants,etc) causes offence to us as monotheistic Chritians and Muslims - should we then rally to have th temple torn down? I think we are really going down a lane riddled with nugacity. Islam should have its entitlements as much as Christianity should.

We know that the greatest noise comes from the christian churches that are allowed to operate in those half finished,top floors of residential houses or even pubs while mounting their speakers outside. If we say we condone the calling of prayers by muslims (which yes they have done all these years) how do we then tell these christian churches to stop the noise? In any case,may be they felt that muslims were more successiful in calling their faithfuls with the speakers outside and hence they copied the style and mounted theirs too (and this i write with utmost respect for both religions - am only highlighting the issue and trying to be objective).

Ban all religious establishments from constant blaring of noise...

What would be fair is giving licenses (e.g. max 4 weeks/30 days per year) for whatever they want... A sacrifice for the residents but so the Muslims can do their thing during Ramadhan,the Christians during Xmas & the Hindus during Diwali...
