Good people,

someone kindly recommend a good place to learn French (Beginners);

+ Preferably within the city center or westlands,
+ open till late,
+ good ambience,
+ starting in December,
+ rates comparable to Alliance Francaise?

AF do not have a December class.

Thanks!

why French now?
Think of the growing chinese influence and the superpower status China is gradually acquiring, the large volumes of trade China is engaged in all over the world and learn Chinese! (I think its called mandarin?). Already there is growing demand for translators in trade, negotiations, diplomacy,etc and- this will increase with time in the next 10yrs. This area remains largely untapped. Think about it...
BTW, English has 26 letters of the alphabet, I hear Chinese has >1,000letters - good luck!

he number of Chinese characters contained in the Kangxi dictionary is approximately 47,035, although a large number of these are rarely used variants accumulated throughout history. Studies carried out in China have shown that full literacy in the Chinese language requires a knowledge of between three and four thousand characters

@intelligentsia - Good looking out.

@Zakumi - Thanks, will check it out Monday.

@willin2learn - Most leads I've gotten so far have been for private tutors.

There's a douche from AF charging KES 2600/hr ... note that some estimates range from 18 - 25hrs to cover a typical beginner's course, depending on the individual & assuming you have some background on the same. The only french I know is omelette, croissant & Menage a trois.

There's another chap from Burundi with supposedly 15yrs teaching (French) experience, Bachelors & Masters Degrees in French, teaching materials including CD's & DVD's and a partridge in a pear tree.

He's charging USD 17/hr o.n.o with a 1hr trial session.

Will keep looking & update if successful.

Thanks Drake for your inquiry. My name is André and I'm the Director of Bonjour Institute, Uniafric House, Koinange Street, 2nd Floor Suite 260, the institution people are talking about. Other than the fact that French is spoken in 54 countries (and is the official language in 40 of them), I'm sure you have your reasons for learning French as opposed to Chinese or any other language.
We are indeed located in the City Center for your convenience, our last class of the day ends at 7:30pm, and we have a perfect, homely ambiance complete with satellite French TV channels. We have a December intake and we are about Kes. 7,000 cheaper than our Competitor PER LEVEL.
Kindly feel free to contact me on info@bonjournairobi.com for any supplementary details.
Merci.

Thanks everyone. I'm sorted!

French was a New Year's resolution (2010) .... and I want to claim (albeit unconvincingly) I 'kept' it....which explains the need for this to be in December.
