Do we really need these extra constituencies.

Fact Central Rift Valley and North Eastern were already highly favoured in current scenario thanks to Kenyatta and Moi

Fact a formular was used in drafting the bounderies, including correcting some of this misrepresentations

fact MOST OF US DONT KNOW THE FORMULAR USED

fact IT IS TAKING A TRIBAL ANGLE

FACT.. those of us from Luo Nyanza expected to gain more from the exercise

FACT: those of us from central expected to maintain the status quo upper hand..

FACT: the rest are not bothered...they are not complaining...or are split...(coast, Eastern)

FACT.. Wazuans are a perfect 'population sample' of 'mwafrika nywele ngumu' Burukenges.. SHINDWE!!!

unless we want an MP for each apartment(Huruma Mathare qualify for 10 MP's each..we cannot base rep on population alone)
OR
Ijara deserves 10 more MP's to represent acres of shrubs and sand and camels...we still cannot use Size to split constituencies...

should i post the formulae used here...?
Maybe then we can argue soberly not ethnically

"Another critical issue emerging from the above analysis is that since there is no fairness in the distribution of the proposed new 80 constituencies across all the counties, this should not be viewed as partisan or ethnic affair. All regions, particularly Eastern, Coast, Bukusuland, Nairobi, Gusiiland and some parts of Rift Valley were treated unfairly by the Ligale team." Kabando wa Kabando

As long as no one is slashing their neighbor, burning buildings, looting businesses or uprooting railways because they feel some committee has wronged them, I do not see what the hullabaloo is all about.

If you are disenchanted with how the new constituencies have been allocated, you HAVE THE RIGHT to use ALL LEGAL MEANS at your disposal to get your grievances addressed. No need to sit pretty while you burn inside for the sake of 'enacting the constitution'.

If you are happy with the constituencies, that is good. But no one should be condemned for voicing protest through legal channels. It would only be a problem if we resort to the barbaric and primitive methods that unfortunately we have become infamous for.

It is still a free country last I checked. Regardless of ethnicity.

@Poundfoolish,
I have no complaint as i feel my constituency was already well within fair representation but looking at the beneficiaries,you get this feeling that Ligale only ended up polarising the country.Which raises the question.Do we need this constituencies at the expense of raising suspicions and tension?.To give you a glimpse,go ahead and tell if this was coincidence.

"The biggest beneficiaries of the alleged “gerrymandering” include Cabinet ministers Dalmas Otieno, Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, Henry Kosgey, Fred Gumo, Charity Ngilu, James Orengo and William ole Ntimama.

Here i could add the PM too.

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

@poundfoolish, we can have MPs per apartment n b ok with it.Main basis for splitting constituencies is POPULATION since the purpose for parliament is REPRESENTATION.Sometime back, there was this debate and ODM MPs said splitting by population would favour central.Thus it was agreed that both size and pop be used.But looking at the outcome, some other unnamed criterion was used

In all 80 additions there were definitely winners, the above quote is just opinion of one reporter. Obviously he had to pick on only big names to make his, perhaps, subjective opinion.

However me wonder it was that necessary for ligale to rash to finalise and beat deadline. Surely some broad consultation with a draft would not have taken away their "independence". And he would not be a failure to hand over whatever remaining tasks to successor if pressed for time.

@all

I particularly have no problem if he created constituencies on the moon or in hell...

only that its evident that some areas were already underrepresented, while others had been favoured by previous regimes..

Ligale only sought to blatantly correct this historical error.. problem is it favours some other peoples perceived enemies while undermining 'upperhands'...

@Kadonye... follow your politics properly, the tune changed once our central provnce MP's realised by population alone would still be a disadvantage...

somebody PLEASE post the formulae here... otherwise tutauana bure electronically

@pound, that's a new twist you'v manufactured there.I don't buy it.Dividing central by area would mean no division of its constituencies.The Kiambu constituencies being split r 4 instance peri-urban areas and not exactly rural areas.Let's just face it:this thing was a sham

@kadonye it wasnt a sham
Moi and Kenyatta created it in an attempt to suit their numbers in parliament. that is why a 'correction' by Ligale seems to favour regions that were initialy 'surpressed' by Moi

im going through some 'hansard' ill let you know why the tune on 'constituencies by population' was toned down..

its at the heat of the moment.. everybody is looking at this from PNU ODM perspective... doesnt help arguing facts about it.

Moi is backing this report because Ligale is properly doing his work the nyayo way.If u remember, in the 90s Kanu would get more MPs than the combined opposition yet the opposition's total on the presidential poll was far more than Kanu's.Thus it is not true that Ligale's gerrymandering helps areas that were ignored by Moi.Otherwise why would Moi and his home area people be backing it?
