Hi All,

Im having a small sample of computer electronic items sent from China to Nairobi. Does the government levy a tax on the items once they reach Kenya? Any suggestions on best shipping companies (DHL or EMS)?

If the computer parts are not more than 3 years old,you won't pay tax on them.If older than 3 years,you will pay duty . Some parts like monitors if not accompanied by the comp. itself,they don't qualify for exemption and they will be charged as a TV set.

I find EMS/ DHL to be expensive,use sky cargo and the ilk.

Well,if my memory serves me right Computers and computer parts do not attract any duty according to this year's budget,even the KRA website shows this.
But there are other accessories like mice on which you pay IDF,thats what happened to me at JKIA a few days ago as I was shipping in a few mice samples. Am nt sure which other accessories get charged IDF,and am still nt very sure about this IDF thingy.
There is a certain msomali ako guangzhou,he does shipping; charging per CBM,COULD be cheaper than DHL...bt he is kinda slow..

He's called mohammed.Call him on +8613543422622.The company is called SALIHIYA CARGO & SHIPPING LINE AGENCY.They have the local office in EASTLEIGH,+254722859680.They charge a rate of 28k per CBM to nai.,,shipping,from guangzhou8.5$ per KG airfreight.I find them a lil bit slow.,

For heavenly sake dont use salihiya. They really screwed me up last month. I paid them to ship some electronics from china by air but took longer that sea. When i protested the stupid somalis were so arrogant. I still paid for air freight even if they took longer than sea.

Have been using a jaluo guy called ken. Very reliable. He's stationed in zhenjiang china. Takes max 5 weeks depending on availability of vessel. You get your goods in nairobi cleared. His no. +8615958446025 his local partner who clears 0711209008. Again for bulk electroics like radios,tv,etc you'll burn your fingers if you use air freight.

WTF... computers are duty free while they charge duty on imports of computer mice? Kwani I am going to use the mice to feed my crocodiles?

Electronics from China is a really give an valuable information. if your electronics so old min 3years u can send without tax.
