Does the sale of shares or rights thereof by the government fall under the public procurement act? If so then they should sell to the highest bidder of which according to me is the open market but with Jimnah you never know what's cooking!

it may be the highest bidder but also looking at the flip side, if they sold it in large blocks (institution) the returns may be higher and more promising than sharing it out into a million slices. the buyer in large blocks will have a more bargaining power. my two cents.

It would not surprise me if the Rights are 'sold' on the market but in a special lot or deal not available to the rest of us...

I think that might be what they are planning to do.

BBI will solve it

Given the kind of response here, does it make sense to have the issue underwritten?

The common stocks which are traded over OTC Bulletin Board or pink sheets carrying per share value of $5 or under that are known as penny stocks. They bear absolute low value and carry limited liquidity.

Power headed for 200 bob!
supposing the rights come at KES 18.50, that would be KES 148 pre split, and assuming we are talking 30% discount, then we are looking at not buying this stock currently at more than 192.
Looks like the price of this stock is slowly sliding to this figure!

Similar arguments which do not make sense were made of StanChat. So, keep that to yourself.

at BGL, Obviously, this one is much more complext than the simple straight foward stanchart case. those govt rights hold millions at stake in capital appreciation, depending on how it plays out. And remember, 1. kplc float is not much - can easily be manipulated in the shortrun. 2. it is a parastatal, so decisions will not be based purely on commecisl wealth maximization, infact a clique influence is likely to prevail.

I a lighted/ from a sinking Mumias to cut my loss only to board a KPLC that is now showing similar tendencies.
I guess the price is being pushed down on purpose as this will translate into lower priced rights. The longer they take to announce the pricing of the rights the lower the price will come - remember KCB. Post split stability at anything between 45 - 50 is possible. Pray Pray Pray

Wow, you are ambitious! I am looking for 35/- max for now... I will be happy(er) with the 40-50 range!

I hope the 1H Results are very, very good [not just good]... I am surprised they did not do the Rights AFTER the 1H Results... They could have gotten a better price...

I am also praying for 35 , my break even price is 27. 40-50 range is way too optimistic.

BGL,
Telling Wazua contributors to keep their arguments to themselves,in a public forum, is like Kibaki telling ministers to keep state secrets...albeit corruption secrets. You should tell Alikujia that you disagree with him/her.If all of us kept our views to ourselves there would be no wazua. So,Alikujia,if you have any idea/views in your head, even though un-popular to some, don't hesitate to let wazuans know....

I also valued it at 35 and i'm surprised a couple of other guys have the same value....

But guys you do know a couple of investors will view this counter as a growth stock and value it like kengen...

Then we would see the 40-50 level easy...

The KPLC CEO said that the rights issue should run from Nov 25-Dec 15....... only 10 DAYS AWAY.

This is too soon. We might see undescription of the rights!

Under-subscription? Nope... LOL... They have an Underwriter so the shares will all be taken up... esp if priced 'right'... BTW, the demand from Institutional Investors will be huge...

This is IMPOSSIBLE.., Most institutions value this counter at above 300 so rights valued below 200 will be seen as a opportunity not to be missed...

We may hear from them about pricing today or tomorrow.
