Hi guys,

I have just voted for Mr. Evans Wadongo a 24yr old Kenyan for the CNN hero of the year award on the CNN site ( here - http://goo.gl/gsn9 ). The story of the innovation is here ( http://goo.gl/pGbgH ). I particularly relate to his MwangazaBora Innovation because I hate the smell of kerosen lamps.

Now I have seen and bought other solar lamps (made in china I think) and am not sure what is the most unique aspect of the innovation (patent wise). However, for Evans to be a finalist of the CNN heroes thing, there must be some economic potential around the innovation. There are obvious carbon credit potentials, natural resource (solar) advantage, etc.

What do wazuans think about the profitability of such a venture. Shouldn't Kenyans invest in it both from the consumer and business end??

I also think those Kenyans on twitter could help popularise the innovation using the hashtag #MwangaBora

@Gmeltdown finally some digerati to join me in this place. It is only me and @dialmoviez who are active digital investors here. Even someone like @bankelele doesn't post much here. The point of that mini-rant is that this thread will probably die a slow death due to disinterest, or @wazua will delete it (how ironic, eh?). Solution is to get more digital guys on here

@ProverB - hopefully Wazuans do not consider investment to be only about Stocks and Real Estate. My question is strictly on viability for large scale investment. I do not know Evans Wadongo yet, and would not looking for VC on his behalf. However am thinking if the innovation has such serious economic potential, that's what investment is about. Or do we have to wait for some Mzungu billionaire investor to scale up its implementation, dont we have local investors? Wont say more for now ...
