I came across an email this morning that sounded quite interesting. It goes like this......

"The United States has 50 states (equivalent to Kenya’s 47 counties).
The land mass of the US is 9.83 million km2 while that of Kenya is 0.585 million km2.

US is 9.83 /0.585 =16.8 times larger than Kenya.
If the US were to have states of equal geographical size to those of Kenya’s counties, the US would have 47 X 17=799 states!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can the US really afford this???????

The US GDP as of 2009 was 14,256 million i.e. 14 trillion US Dollars (25 % of world GDP).Kenya’s 2009 GDP was 30.2 million i.e. 30.2 billion US Dollars.

Thus the US economy is 14,256/30.2=472 times larger than that of Kenya.

The annual salary of each US senator is $174,000 USD per year (approximately 13,920,000 Ksh). A Kenyan senator (this is very likely as he cant earn less than an MP) might be at the very lowest 1.2 million (14,400,000 Ksh)per year.

The annual salary of each US Governor is $124,398.USD per year (approximately 9,951,840 Ksh). A Kenyan Governor (this is very likely as he cant earn less than an MP) might be at the very lowest 1.2 million (14,400,000 Ksh) per year.

HOW CAN THIS BE SO!!!!!!!!!!"

In the US they have counties too.Their states are more of what is known as majimbo here. They have many powers unlike our counties which in Ruto's words are 'exalted county councils'

in kenya we have the pure capitalist mentality. i.e. how much more can i make. that trickles down to even our own jobs, etc. we are looking at maximizing our incomes without subjecting it to our output. that is the problem. its all about more money, more money. the advantage that the national assembly has had before is that they were/are in a position to award themselves more money. hence the 'senior' politicians (senators, governors) would demand even more. yeah, thats the cRapitalism we have here.
