Like Moi used to say and like all other political parties:

Nairobi Stock Exchange iko na wenyewe.

Read between the lines.

Kenya needs to lift this yoke of tribalisim once and for all or forever be doomed. (two steps forward four steps back).

Super powers are electing black people for prezzo. We are still fighting about Kabila, while they build space stations and iphones.

Just a thought. You articulate very well the predicament we seem to be in. What's ur solution?..what are you doing about it? How does this affect or influence my investment decision today?..why is this under investments? My landlord ni mkikuyu..so's my girlfriend,..n cab driver....come think of it..atleast every facet in my life has a kikuyu connection!..hata kina njunge, eddiemundu mukiha..mlefu ..some of smartest brains on sk are kikuyu..... Am i doomed?

@ Mwana

Please,please,please... lets skip the tribal route. Are you saying the guy is not there on merit? Do you have info.. to suggest he has a dirty past? Look, tribe is a biological accident period. Tribalism is learned. Why do we want to perpetuate this retrogressive thinking?

There is a brown-teethed kikuyu guy in an IDP somewhere in R-Valley who has never heard of the NSE. What you are trying to insinuate is an ignorant generalization.
But i do not fully disagree with you. I still think there are some guys there who would be glad to have a 20 year old puppet if they could get away with it.
For now i think the only way out for us the ordinary folk is to align your interest with the oligarchs. You miss the point completely when you start thinking its about a certain tribe.

Listen Kimuti,

I am a kikuyu. Kikuyus are not really the problem. The problem is tribalisim propagated by all tribes. Not just kikuyus. (Kikuyus just happen to be in power now).

So if you are a kikuyu remove yourself for a moment from your tribe and look at Kenya as a forigener for a moment.

1. Kiyuks had the presidency,Kibaki then appointed GEMA individuals at the most sensitive positions. Finance minister was Gema,so was Defence,Internal security,Justice ministry, head of civil service,CID,NSIS, Corruption Czar(githongo),KACC cheif and the list goes on...... The only reason why anglo-leasing didn't take off,was that one of the gema insiders didn't play ball.

2. All assistant ministers in most of these sensitve dockets were Kikuyus. So were PS's. And on it went. How would you feel if you were a Luo,Kalenjin,Luhya e.t.c?

3. Were they qualified? Yes. But Kenya has other tribes who pay taxes and are part of the fabric of Kenya which is the Government.

4. Obama has just ordered that Liberman remain chair of a powerful senate committee although he supported Mccain. He wants to nominate Clinton as sec of state,he wants to keep Bush's defence secretary for four years (Gates). Does he have qualified Democrats in his camp? Yes. But he wants to keep the country together.

Was Obama more qualified then the veteran mccain? No. But the country needed a change and americans felt that african-americans needed to be part of the running of America.

Country first. Tribe is second.

If tribe comes first, you have collusion, hatred, division, corruption and war.

True,iko na wenyewe!

NSE is a private company owned by Stockbrokerage firm and Investment banks (which are also private companies). If they wanted to pick their daughters, sons, wives, husbands, etc as NSE CEO,there isn't much you can do about it....and in fact, you do not have a right to complain or commend them!!

If you think the guy they picked is the wrong one,and his presence is going to affect your investment negatively, then liquidate you shares and put your money somewhere else....Nothing personal; it's just business!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Guys,

I believe in giving credit where it deserves! I am not a centralite and i have no issues with the new NSE CEO,he has the credentials and passed the interview, let's sit back and let him take us to the land of milk and honey. Akishindwa atachomoka before we realise it. His being an insider can also be a plus, mmmmh think of it. He may be knowing where the loopholes are!

I believe in papers. Papers combined with aggresiveness and Prayers can reach you the moon if not the sun.

@mwana,

Your name and your thinking tells all.You know Nyatike MP jana told some crowd that people should demonstrate to have a Nyanza born person to head the Kissii campus of Moi University.
My point,
Judge people by their character content but not tribe.

@mwana,grow up not by age but brainwise. You know someone juzi here on SK said that there are two types of people ie the wise and the unwise and I guess you are the latter.

whats wrong with this Kyuks?

In CFA level-I in Kenya last year,65% of the candidates were kyuks.

In CFA Level-II this year (those who passed level-1 last year),90% are kyuks.

about 88% of CFA charterholders in Kenya today are kyuks.

And we can forever keep complaining about Kyuks,AND keep demanding for MAJIMBO!!!

GOD BLESS KENYA..GOD HELP KENYANS

The best thing Kenyans from other tribes can do is to get positively aggressive in all that they do.If you are a maasai, rear your cattle with all the passion, meru grow and sell your miraa with all your passion,Taita farm your sisal with all your passion,Mkamba create and market your antiques with all your passion.

I'm not a Kikuyus but I admire their aggressiveness,it's unmatched.A kikuyu will come to Nairobi, start roasting maize, selling charcoal, hawking and after a few years you will see a pickup or canter in his name.

You will be working with a Kikuyu, earning more income than him/her but in a few years he will be a landlord.

Go to any merry go round, women chamas,Youth groups, the majority will be Kikuyus.

Kikuyus educated their children especially girl child immediately after independence when other communities showed apathy against girl child education. These are now the mothers of the people holding senior positions.

Just go to many offices in Nairobi,You will be greeted by a Kikuyu Secretary.

Mwangi took the position because he was qualified for it .He was interviewed and shortlisted by Deloitte.

Lesson to other communities:

Let's take whatever we do very seriously.

Let,s join hand as unity is strength.

Let's take charge of our destiny and stop blaming the Kikuyus for our predicaments.

Nobody chose to be born in a certain tribe.

Okay... Point noted! Can we get back to stocks? Like why cables is up 8%..albeit less than 2bob change but that's a big percentage...and why it seems CFC-stanbic's hit a lull..and howcomes kengen with a divyield of 5.11.. is down today..day of bookclosure yet 40cents dividend on a share priced 17 is better than 4bob for kplc at 139...and probability of kengen comin down on monday since it'l be ex div. Get off this tribal trash! I didn't see persons over 60 years wieldin matchetes to kill n evict non tribes men!

@ mwana & the likes

ever wondered what scarcity mentality is all about.....? i guess not.....!

then,i tell you it's a belief that you only succeed when someone else fails...

scarcity mentality is the biggest problem in our society!

it has ruined our politics, our governance and our economy...

it makes smart people become tribal chauvinists...who only can trust a system if only one of their own is heading it...

I am a kikuyu,i didn't apply to be but all the same i am proud and i invested heavily when mwebesa was the ceo and i didn't care his tribe and in the same spirit i will invest even when mwangi assumes that office... because i know what i want out of nse..

grow up and let's build up our nation!

Be informed.NSE is a members club and there is nothing we can do about until after demutualisation.........Ni kweli.Ina wenyewe na tuta-do??

Fellows it is sad to see that people are making judgments of peter mwangi based on his tribe. I feel some people here would be happier if it was a college dropout got appointed.

That however is not to say i'm happy with the way he was appointed. There was so much secrecy and although he is qualified, peter mwangi was appointed days after mwabesa's resignation. This gave little chance to other suitable qualified individuals to throw thier hat into the ring kikuyu or otherwise. so we get someone who has been part of this exclusive nse club and is likely to offer few new ideas. lets base our arguments on such otherwise our country will never go anywhere.

If you ever wanted to excell in business befriend these people, ask them how they do it insteed of playing the tribal ball game.I tried it and i have no regrets associating with my Kikuyu business mates. It is high time we jioned forces and stop the blame game.I expected a congratulatory remarks to Mr Mwangi.
