The movie about facebook is being launched today and it raises more questions than answers about Mark and his $ Billion dollar creation.

It would be interesting to see what happens next but i don't think it will impact in anyway on the brand facebook. What am i onto...Mark created facebook from a Harvard dorm true (so the world is led to believe) however i rem facebook in my campus days in the US, what started as an IVY network created by a "bunch" of guys grew so much then 'other' colleges were invited and soon the world, how Mark came to own it,i may never know.some guys from MIT tell me mark was always around MIT talking bout facebook but this was not his creation. Its widely known he "stole" the idea from his pals and am told he dint have the depth to create such a sensation..hearsay maybe but i'd say Mark was a naughty boy..lol

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.

The victorious will write the history. So many dead and buried bodies in the Facebook story. And this is just one of them.

@Ric dees

Man, I have spread your "The girl effect - The clock is ticking.mp4" to all my friends and they are liking it.

About Mark, he is not different from Bill Gates who stole Steve Jobs creation and ran with it - Watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley" and you will understand what I mean.

Nokia also raided Ericsson's talented employees to remain afloat. Find out what Nokia was initially making and you will never want to ever buy another Nokia - Nokia by the way are on their death bed courtesy of iphone, Nexus or google android application and blackberry's storm 2.

Technology Thieves eventually die a painful death as it was not their brains that created the marvels of mother nature.

In 1898, Eduard Polón founded Finnish Rubber Works, manufacturer of galoshes - Gumboots - and other rubber products, which later became Nokia's rubber business.[26] At the beginning of the 20th century, Finnish Rubber Works established its factories near the town of Nokia and began using Nokia as its product brand

@Njung'e

Bill Gates will eventually die a desolate man. Cloud Computing does not require you to buy Antivirus Solutions, save you on storage devices, makes your office work available anywhere in the world and makes sharing very easy. It is encouraging ppl to work at home when the weather is human unfriendly and theft of your data is minimal.

In the next five years, Windows will be history. So, don't spend a fortune going to College to learn Microsoft Office Suit.

See, the real guy who should have gotten credit for windows software is Steve Jobs. Apple today is making more money par year in America than Microsoft.

Mark is just a normal human being,Early 2007 he got sued for stealing the idea , but last year the issue was sorted,

True, the idea was not his, but who cares, the guy is also generous, @ 26 only and with all those Billions and the revolution FB has caused, Its a big achievement.

What MaRK HAs THAT most people lack is risk taking and believing in one self

Cant wait to see the movie,

On monday, he featured on Ophrah Show, he showed a small inside of his rented house and his girlfriend(Who is chinese)

If you want to know, how they two met , just let me know, i will post it here

Five years eh LOL! Microsoft naysayers have been on this five year death prediction since Windows 95.

Kwanza when the first open source operating system kernel (Linux) was put online free for download and further development everyone was predicting the death of Microsoft especially because they had just bundled windows 95 with a free internet browser, effectively killing netscape...remember them?

Cloud computing does present a slight threat to some Microsoft products, remember Microsoft already does have some cloud computing products as well and an excellent virtualization platform that dwarfs the vmware alternative.

Remember they came from behind to claim the crown with gaming consoles...

Simply put Microsoft haiendi mahali in the next 100 years.

They simply have the best global software delivery, support and training system in the world.

90% plus software market share cannot be wiped out in five years mzee wangu ...copy cats or not.

move fast
take risks
fail harder

Facebook, was born because Zuckerberg was dumped. In a line I expect women across the city to start using immediately, his ex tells him: "Don't think girls won't like you because you are a nerd. They won't like you because you are an assh---."

Life judges both extreme success and extreme failure very harshly! I read how it all came together, and believe he deserves the success. It would be difficult to be that successful without the angst!

Shame on you

The cloud: - that which does not reside on your hard disk or even on the server on second floor. Its that application out there somewhere - you cannot really know where it is physically.

What Surealligator alludes to is good old Web 2.0 (the state of play when content starts being user driven - e..g this forum, blogs, comments on nation.co.ke, uploading files to YouTube, Creating your own content on Facebook, blogs, etc.

@Njunge - yes - the cloud could hurt Microsoft unless it evolves to become a player.

Some examples of traditional apps and those being offered as a "cloud" service for free....

Outlook/Lotus Email .....yahoo, gmail, etc
MS Word - Google Docs

Google wants to evolve its browser into an OS - such that you can buy any machine with not operating system and simply use chrome for every thing - to create docs, access email, access all manner of cloud apps, etc etc....

And Google is not just dominating the space held by Windows XP/etc....but now the operating system on handsets....Android. most device manufacturers are releasing android handsets - again this is because the apps for this op sys are increasing (and will soon overtake apple's i-phone OS)

people, i have heard all this before and i would surely want you to clarify some things before you even dump some of your predictions here.
1) cloud computing is here, but it is not a replacement of the desktop applications we run. Google runs Google Docs free on the internet but people still prefer to use good old office. Cloud computing will only go places if big players like Microsoft moves it.
2) Apple is worth more on the stock exchange than Microsoft that does not mean it makes more money. Apple's business is vastly different than Microsoft's, with most of the company's income coming from consumer hardware products, supported by growing sales of music and software. Microsoft makes the majority of its revenues from licensing deals with PC makers and corporations (market segments where Apple is either weak or doesn't even seek to enter) and, conversely, has repeatedly failed to find much success in the competitive consumer markets Apple has done so well in over the past several years
3)Google will never dominate the OS market since they think they know what the user wants, they don't ask them. Chromimum will fail like Buzz (supposed to compete with facebook and twitter did), google Wave, Orkut e.t.c.

now comes...Statistics.
Which is the most popular Browser? - did I hear Firefox? Wrong. Internet Explorer (although i still use Chrome in 3rd place)
http://marketshare.hitsl...rket-share.aspx?qprid=0

What is the most popular OS? - Windows XP (like google is even a threat)
http://marketshare.hitsl...rket-share.aspx?qprid=8
Considering Macs are only 5% of the market but people sing their praises like they are divine.

on Android, do you know no single Andorid phone beats the Iphone and Nokia is still ahead of the pack in the smartphones business.

My point....nothing changes immediately (only for geeks), we are doing cloud computing apps now but it will be a while before users see the advantage to running an app on the internet and they have I7 processors and tonnes of memory used to run only browser.

@Masukuma; I see the point you are making and I think you are right.

Let me try to re-phrase it:

Microsoft makes most of its money from pre-installed software in PCs. 99% of all computer users in the world are familiar with MS products and nothing else.

Any PC maker who wants to sell products easily will go to MS and buy pre-install S/W.

Unless the MS loses sight of the dynamics of the PC industry, they are here to stay for a very long time.... and who said they are not into this cloud thing any way?
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.
